Nintendo Pro Controller - Button Positions on Screen
I use a Nintendo Pro Controller to play on Steam. I have the controller set to the Nintendo Switch Pro controller in the Big Picture controller menu.

I have an issue on multiple games that have on-screen skills that show cooldowns, including FF7 Remake and Granblue Relink

The on-screen buttons for skills are not positioned in the correct locations. The controller has X on the top, but the X skill is positioned on the left, while the left button, which is Y, uses the top skill. Same issue with A and B buttons being in each other's spots on the displayed skills.

This is very disorienting.

Is there a way to fix this issue?

Modify the game change that. Either that, or swap gamepad buttons (X<->Y).

If I remap the buttons, the positions are correct, but the displayed prompts are wrong. I have accidentally deleted Save Files this way before...

I said "swap", not "remap".

How do I swap them?

You open this thing with a screwdriver, remove the X button from its place, remove the Y button from its place, put X where Y was, put Y where X was and close the gamepad.

If I am understanding what you are telling me, this won't solve the problem. The labels will be swapped, but they will still physically not be in the positions on the controller where they are on screen. In addition, the on screen prompts for things like "Interact" will now also be mislabeled.

Then you will have to swap back the button order in Steam Input. That'll get you right about where you want to be.

Is there an alternate solution that does not require me to do surgery on my controller? I don't trust myself to do it correctly, and it will just swap the problem over to the Switch, when I use the controller to play on the TV.

As I said earlier, you can modify the game.
