I've just put it in the users/public/ directory. that way all files are full access
I have two disk drives dedicated to Steam.

Anywhere but C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86). If you put it there, Windows will manage your game files. You don't want Windows to manage your game files.

I usually stick it in C:\Games or D:\Games

Or just install Steam itself to its normal C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam location, create/add a Steam library at e.g. D:\SteamLibrary (Settings -> Storage) and set said library to be default.

Anyways fun tip, do not use the C drive as a working drive PLUS OS drive because you will wear it out faster.

You can't wear out an SSD through normal use. Your power supply will fry and your motherboard will die before that happens.

SSD has limited amount of writes and there is a health percentage on them same as HDD's.

Writing a lot to the SSD will, in fact, wear them out faster as they are finite not infinite.

That "limited" amount of writes is something that normal usage won't ever reach. Well, if you have one of those older SSDs from the earlier days, sure, but not with modern ones.

downloading a game is writing them down once and then they are only ever read until the next patch - if there even is one. config files and savegames are stored on the c drive anyway with most games especially modern ones so you really not 'wasting' much writecycles
