It seems steam don't want to accept my debit card (2024)
A continuation of a post Valve locked because of a "recent post", aka some "steam update".

Smh. They should get POFMA'd...

It appears that this is a real problem for users of POSB/DBS debit card users, mainly Singapore users.

Recently, bought a some stuff about a month ago on steam. Less than 2-3 weeks later, I couldn't buy anything because my card was locked/restricted for no real reason. I managed to buy through PayNow.

Less than 3 days later, I attempted to buy another item on steam, PayNow now doesn't exist and was forced to pay through a third party company, in my case, Paypal.

What is going on at Valve? Is this affecting all Singapore users under POSB/DBS?

No one here knows why any payment method is removed from Steam.

You should ask support.

Already did. Was given a generic response to it on both occasions.

"As mentioned previously, we aren't able to identify the event that triggered this restriction. We only keep detailed payment information for a short time, so it is possible that the event that triggered this ban occurred some time ago.

You will need to use an alternate payment method for future purchases. You'll be able to see all available payment methods for your region during the checkout process.

If you can't use any of the available payment methods, you may want to consider using a Steam Wallet code to add funds to your account.

Steam Wallet codes are vouchers that can be used to add credit to your Steam Wallet, which is available to users in all regions. Please visit your local game store or retailer's gift card section to find Steam Wallet cards that can be added to your Steam account.

See our Steam Wallet article for more information.

Because we have provided all the information we have for your issue I'm closing this help request. If you have an unrelated issue please open a new help request and we will be happy to help."

"Use anything except dbsposb master debit. Visa debit works. Grabpay works. Rest i havent try.

if you want the answer to your problem, then here it is

1) your POSB Debit Card is not Activated to make online purchasing at all

to activate it, contact POSB and tell them that you want to Activate your POSB Debit Card to make online Purchases.

-------------------------------------------------------------

i'm from singapore myself, and i'm using my POSB debit card to make online purchases on Steam and Xbox successfully without a single problem.

all debit cards requires activation to make online purchases and to do that, contact the bank to do so.

-----------------------------------------------------------

anyone else who got problem with their debit card that is from the different bank as OP

then my solution to the problem won't work for you.
no154370 Apr 10, 2024 @ 2:04am
there is another reason also why OP got restricted which is a possibility

1) his Steam Account is Compromised completely

-------------------------------------------------------------

as for why that occur, only he can answer to it truthfully.

------------------------------------------------------------

in my opinion, the current Steam Account that is being used to make this thread Changed hands and ownership multiple times.

as for why i came to such a conclusion

reason(s)

a) can OP provide the year when the Steam Account he is currently using is being created exactly
no154370 Apr 10, 2024 @ 2:06am
and final possibility is this

1) the Steam Account is being suspected for "fraudulent payments" due to using different Bank Cards for purchases on the Steam Account, thus, the Steam Account ended up being restricted from making purchases

i have been using my posb Debit card for online purchases for years and never gotten "restricted" for it at all.
Belac Apr 10, 2024 @ 2:19am
I also recently started having this problem that the OP has mentioned. I am from Singapore and use a Mastercard debit card from POSB and had no issues with purchasing till now. My last successful purchase being 26 March 2024. I tried to make a different purchase on 1 April 2024 and that was when the issue popped up.

When I contacted Steam Support, they came back with the same response as well. I had no problem making purchases before so it is not an issue of whether it is activated or not. I have also not shared my Steam account details with anyone else so it is not compromised either. None of the reasons that Steam support mentioned has happened to my account so what is the actual reason?

The issue is that I am just as legitimate as you claim as you are.

This seems like Valve is doing a blanket ban on users with POSB/DBS debit cards

Exact same Issue here. Was trying to buy some games on sale w/ POSB debit card and had the same error message and same response by the Steam team (aka go !@#$ yourself and buy steam wallet creds.)

NO issues buying stuff last month, and call into bank also indicated no issues their end.

Just try to sent a help to the support n the same answer again, can't find anything wrong on their side n just close reply without even willing for me to answer. Just tell me to go buy cards for wallet from game shops. Those cards cost more than the amount like 10% more. Guess I will look for other place to buy games.
Magnalis Apr 11, 2024 @ 4:54am
I encountered the same issue today. Most recent purchase was 20/23 March 2024. Sent in 2 help tickets and got the same copied and pasted replies.

If this is true, is there anything we can do on the legal side of things? Silly question I know, but this is ridiculous.
