If I set my steam game achievements to private, can you still see achievements from before I set it?

basically trying to surprise my friend by playing overwatch but it requires you to actually play before you can unlock competitive, I got some achievements before that and realized he might be able to see them so I turned all stuff relating to it off, but will achievements I already unlocked still show up in the friend activity where you click play on the game? or will they be hidden? it still shows for me so thats why im confused

Set your achievements for that game to private and ask a friend to tell you if he can saw them or not. It's normal to be able to see your achievements since it's our account. The private option should be for your friends, right?
