Optional Parameters Warning
As of the last Steam client update, I've started getting warnings for games when I launch them with optional parameters (i.e. --skip-launcher). I've never had warnings for these before, and most of the optional parameters I use are to skip launchers or splash screens, etc, in order to speed up the process of launching into the game itself.

By having these warnings now come up and prevent the game from launching until I acknowledge these, it effectively defeats the purpose of using the optional parameters, or in some cases (launching a game with mods via a mod manager) it adds even more windows and delay to launching the game.

Is there a way to disable these warnings?

No, you need to understand why those warning is there. somehow things has change and security has a issue with it.

and yes if its possbile to turn such off, you also open the door for abuse of it.

also make sure its not steam that stop use a settings even that can be seen as a warning you try run things with settings not allowed. or working anymore.

even fallout 4 tell you enable mods will disable achivemnts, there is a reason why its made so from Original game devs,

( mod issue is not a game devs problem ) plenty of mods has cause corruotion of game )

pretty sure it was not the reply you want

but "Optional Parameters Warning" look like steam is not accepting those setttings anymore.

they most have done so for a reason.

The optional parameter I am getting is -len. I hit play in Steam, then play on the Bethesda launcher and I am selected from what appears to be a cast of thousands to write WTF in here. As it says If I did not request this launch or do not understand these options then select cancel.

After selecting cancel one would think that it would show one the problem, hell no it does not. It puts you back on the hamster wheel again to continue on a pointless journey.

IT IS NOT ME THAT FECKED THIS UP! WHO COULD IT BE?:steammocking:

I am getting this now after installing fallout London. Trying to revert back to base game and it wont run fallout 4 for crap. Have no mods installed, Deleted both fallout and fallout london and the parameters persist after re-installs. I can find no way to get rid of this without trying to deleting everything steam.

Stop spouting garbage, please. "They probably did it for a reason" is not a valid reason to excuse garbage additions. How many people do you think actually complain to say, bethesda, that fallout 4 doesn't work because of their mods? Oh, and what about when there's a "corruption" in the original game with no mods? is it fine because the devs made it, so it must be fine? Are we not allowed to criticize ♥♥♥♥♥♥ features that result in poor QoL?

The reason is security. Starting a program with flags outside of Steam triggers it. It makes sense. You could theoretically start a program outside of Steam with some arguments that expose the user to a threat. I ended up here because I was looking to see if there was a recommended way to workaround. I'm making a mod that requires running with some custom arguments.

With the mod I'm making you could absolutely compromise the user, because it's a mod of a Java based game that actually runs first, weaves in Aspects that change some functionality in the game, and then starts the game.

This only took me a couple hours. A bad actor could easily do the same, but instead of adding some custom screen resolution options, they could do literally anything else you can do with standard Java (which is essentially anything).

I understand it's annoying, but the reason for adding the warning is completely valid. It wouldn't be too hard to trick a user into launching something with

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
