Can't Install One Of My Games "Corrupt Update Files" On Secondary Drive.

I have recent factory reset my PC. First it was to switch to Arch Linux but since have decided to go back to Windows. Reason I say this is because when I installed Black Ops Cold War on Arch Linux it said "Corrupt Update Files" after trying to install but after I retried it, it worked. Now fast forward to Windows, same thing happens except no matter how many times I retry it, it just wont work. Here's where it gets weird though, if I install it on the C:\ drive it works.

Here's a list of the things I have tried.
1. Cleared Download Cache
2. Rename Downloading Folder
3. Reinstall Steam from the website instead of winget
4. Completely format my D drive (without quick format selected)
5. Deleting the file that the logs said was corrupted (Seems to be a different file or two every
time I rerun the download)

Note: I cannot Verify the Files because since this error happens right at the end of the download, Steam says there are 0 files installed because technically they are downloaded just not installed.

Note #2: I can download everything except for Cold War, even games that are the same size and bigger. So that should throw out any suspicion of corrupted chunks on my drive.

Linux/windows then it sounds like you are using exfat from linux ?

True windows only have NTFS , whatever other media type other system has is seen as transport OS among them diffrent OS mac,linux,windows, steam windows NTFS cant apply same security at exFAT

so technicaly exfat or attach usb-stick can cause issue with steam, ( remove them from system is seen as best advice. )

use computer administration, thats how i notice last steam user had a usb stick thats made interference, and lets hope its that issue, here also.

keep in mind we have no intel on what you have at OS and media type.

no matter what do not lie if you did this, you wont help next steam user if you do.
also next steam is even worse in suggestion a path you wont like.

check disk in other pc , and new disk in that pc.
cable driver and controll driver board and BIOS.

as i told you a dark path in every detail in whats wrong.

disk firmware or disk brand support for help.

Since reinstalling windows I have re-partitioned every one of my drives to be NTFS and have removed all boot, home, var, etc partitions that were related to linux so that shouldnt be an issue

Generally speaking this is your anti-virus obliterating the files

Alternatively you can try ot run steam as an administrator which may help with fixing permission problems

Just retried it with Steam run as administrator and Windows real time file protection off and got the same error

Can you browse the disk and check if steam library structor is even there.

its know as add steam library , and yes thats why we ask , also make sense you cant write there if its not there.


keep in mind we cant see from here its there, we assume you did all right. only make it worse if it is.

because next step check with new disk or disk in other pc.

Dont forget you test with 2 OS , and both was not happy with disk, and thats why i only had focus on wrong media format, and new windows install , then most will say aient the problem , more disk is or you did not make steam library, or worst case disk is the problem.

and why test with other could be a good idea if you have spare.

Okay so I decided to retry it again before replying since i had installed hundreds of gigabytes of games since I last responded, and what do ya know It worked. I have no godly reason as to why it worked but it did. So i guess I just needed to install a bunch of games before installing Cold War. Weird. Thanks to everyone for trying to help!
