Steam still doesn't fix E-Cores issue when downloading?
Steam will use all of E-core on Alder Lake CPU. max out on 100% and cause Windows to lag badly. P-Core just sitting there doing nothing.

workaround for this is to set core affinity manually when downloading game.

It's been years... why is this issue still exists?

What's wrong with using e-cores?

Are you sure the lagging is due to e-cores and not disk performance? I'm running an i7 12700 with 4 e-cores and 8 p-cores and I can't say I've noticed issues with Steam.

So it begs the question, which CPU are you running? Which version of Windows? What makes you sure this is a Steam problem to fix?

I'm running 12700KF with lastest Windows Build.
When steam downloading something it's uses 4 E-cores make it go 100%.

Windows are using e-core when it doesn't do anything. Steam will cause the windows to lag and become unresponsive since steam doesn't off-load the works to P-Core.

Steam do not fix your cpu issue, try board support.

steam is a frontstore that sell games.

Note steam doesn't control what cores are used by the system. The OS is doing that.

There's more than one version of Windows... what version of Windows do you want me to assume?

When steam downloading something it's uses 4 E-cores make it go 100%.

Well since you made sure to not answer the question sufficiently.

What version of Windows?

What are the rest of your system specs? Steam may not express a preferences for which cores to use, that's up to the Windows scheduler and only of the reasons why Alder Lake and newer CPU's prefer Windows 11, because the Windows 10 scheduler is not aware of e core/p core.

I have a Intel I7 12700K and after installing windows 11 again I encountered this problem. This helped for me:

Control panel > System & Security > power options. Make sure to click on balanced.

Then go to Settings > System > Power. Makes sure to select High performance.

This solved the issue for me. Fast steam downloads again and all cores of the processor work when downloading.
Setting steam as high priority in task manager fixed it for me, I noticed that setting affinity to not use e cores reset just about every time I booted back up. Setting high priority seems to have fixed the issue. i7 12700KF windows 11 pro

I/We cant fix your cpu issue here, thats Brand support board issue,
I/we can point at Chipset driver and full performance in power scematic.

High priority is a windows issue, app maker and game devs do not run things in extrem priority and test for script fail and test its stabil. take my info warning highly.

This is a you you issue and noone here will suggest have you done this to fix things as first choise, if you forget this.

Steam and game devs will not say to you fix your BIOS anymore, this is prineted in all pc tech manual at pc board information, technical y they can ignnore you and dont have to suggest this. if you have any performance issue take it up with you Brand pc name support place or custom build pc brand board name, rest of the world will not fix ithis for you..

Thank you, it worked perfectly for my issue!
It's also a shame that someone in this thread keeps blaming people's problems on hardware or the system instead of actually trying to solve them—it's just like those robotic customer service agents I encounter when shopping online.

Read pc guide on board information, this is you you issue.

Its a shame we have PC user that dont read what board support already told them in to do and keep check up if board need updates.

in the days ppl say read the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ manual.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM

This will be worse in the future, most here have auto update app, so this will not be ask or help with anymore.

If you have any issue with board and its cpu ask Brand board support or brand name pc model support,

steam & game devs and MS do not fix BIOS and chipset drievrs.

They should stop try help you and tell you contact whoever that has the support, on it. byebye

And worst past of this, you think a user has right to make them BIOS & chipset driver they cant make the signed drivers, so NO never going to happend to use not signed and stapped by them that make them.

There is nothing any here can do contect your product support.

Try read topic "Steam still doesn't fix E-Cores issue" never going to happend.
its not a steam issue at all.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
