Steam just banned my card for no reason?
My card suddenly can't be used on steam and after checking with the bank confirmed it was due to steam and not the bank. When I contacted steam support said its due to some payment dispute or unauthorized activity but I have not had any. I used the same card only 2 months ago was working just fine and have had no purchases on steam btwn that time and now. Anyone has had similar issues?

Have you done any chargebacks or received any alerts attributed to this?

The only thing that comes to mind is one palworld purchase that could not go through so I just let steam refund it back to the steam wallet. However this was the start of Jan if this was the issue its weird the card was still working after that?

Look at your transaction history in Steam, anything to note there?

More information from support would be nice. And it's possible you're forgetting something that happened in the last few months. Or legitimate fraud was detected on Steam's end, your card may have been compromised somehow and if that fraudulent use was detected by Valve they'd be right to block the card. And there's always an tiny chance that a mistake was made. Valve could have mistakenly blocked the card. It's also not impossible your bank did something, like initiated a chargeback on their own, once a great while I have seen financial institutions overstep over a misunderstanding or user confusion.

Casting a pretty wide net but those are the most likely scenarios I'm aware of. Without more info it's hard to be sure which it is though.

For steam to ban your type of payment method, means there was a card used to chargeback, not a refund but a chargeback.

Now if it your card specifically was banned meant there must had been chargeback via that card which why can't use it on Steam no matter what.

Another way to have ban is doing lot of questionable purchases, which flag their system to have someone review odd activities, and were able to determine what going on.

So all can do is contact support again, it possible your bank may have flag Steam, or whomever you were talking to at the bank either didn't understand correctly what you explained to them, or may require someone higher up such as fruad department to help resolve your bank card issue.

Yeah I double checked but there are no problems with my card. So at this point its either an unknown chargeback or its a straight up mistake. Steam support also provided no help they essentially told me to ♥♥♥♥ off. Provided suggestions for alternative forms of payment and just closed the support thread. I guess my options are just to ask the bank again or suck it up unfortunately.

Have your bank issue you a new card.

i highly suspect that the Steam Account being used to create this thread

the current person using it is not the Original Owner who make the Steam Account.

--------------------------------------------

in other words, over the years, it has changed hands and ownership multiple times.

one question for OP

1) when was the Steam Account you currently using is being Created?????

Just happened to me and I'm the original owner of my account - Same excuses, same thing. Nothing wrong on my end, made several purchases over the past weeks, go to use my card info, suddenly it's gone, odd. okay re-enter it, error. Email support. Get a non-answer about fraud charges and recommendation for alternative payment and closed ticket. Basically told to screw off.

Same issue applied to me. They initially said that the issue was unauthorized card use or this card was being used on two accounts which is false and it got fixed for about a week i was able to make purchases again and now they’re saying they don’t know what the issue is or when it occurred. steam support is so bad it hurts

Oh great. Finally found people who have the same issues as well. Bought a steam deck OLED recently and thought that I could finally start gaming. Wanted to check out some new games and end up having the transaction declined. Support say they cant do anything and ask me to use another card for payment. All my bills and utilies are tied to this (only) card I have and they just ask me to simply use another card for payment when I usually use this main card for all the payment. So they expecting customer to create a new card everytime Steam decide to block it?

Steam support is bad to be honest. Did not provide any reason for the block or what and first thing being defensive saying they cannot trace back the reason for block. From what I understand all finance data need to be kept for a certain of years for auditing purpose. But they simply say "cant help, no info, do get new card for payment" as a solution.

So it seem like some from the gaming community has got the same treatment. Steam deck will probably be my last purchase from Steam. Gonna dual boot and then play some other games.

Yea I am getting the exact same issue right now. My card just randomly stopped working for no reason, and they provide literally 0 info as to why. It's complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Well if say the bank were to decline the request and not provide any info to Steam, you want Valve should make up something so you feel better? Maybe sometimes they told you exactly what they know.

And it's not like people never have issues with their bank... probably gotta dot some i's and t's before deciding who to be angry at.

Lol I have this issue with paypal, self inflicted tho. I didn't want my card attached to anything Elon Musk touched so I asked Paypal to remove my card from my account and they banned it. Not what I meant but whatever, I'll never use that thing again anyway.

I don't have issues with Steam because I don't use my card. Just drive to Walmart or Gamestop and pay cash for gift cards (due to TX limits with buying gift cards) load them on the account and bickity bam, Gabe's now your rich uncle and no more ♥♥♥♥ stains on your undies. I've been doing this for 2 decades, y'all can suck it up.
