Disk usage very unstable
Hi!

So every time I try and download a game in Steam no matter the size of it my disk usage keeps just decreasing and increasing very randomly even getting to 0mb/s, does anyone have any tips?
I tried changing download regions and clearing cache
I got a 476GB XPG SPECTRIX S40G and a 931GB Western Digital WD Blue SN570 1TB which is the one where I download games at

It's normal. Steam game downloads comes in compressed pieces. Decompressing requires extra disk performance. Disk usage fluctuates due to accessing multiple compressed files.

Steam downloads in compressed chunks, once a chunk is down it gets decompressed and installed. Thus the disk and cpu usage will fluctuate as it decompresses and installs whilst it is still downloading the next chunk

I say this cause I have a friend who was just downloading the same game as me and he has a steady 300mb/s disk usage

Does he use SSD? SSD improves significantly on download/install speeds.

He does use an SSD and so do I, both my storage devices are M.2 SSD's and they are "superior" to his, and this only happens on steam, I can download same size games or bigger in epic games for example and it takes less then half the time
