Gift free game?
Is there any way to gift someone a free game? I know how to gift a game that is not free, but there does not seem to be a way to gift a free game.

You can not gift a free game as that would be completely pointless.

I don't think, anybody ever got the idea for such a feature in the first place. I kind of get the thought behind it, that it would feel more personal than to send a shop page link, but it's nothing, Steam could have ever planned for.

No there no way to gift something that free, can only gift something that for sale, not free.

Just tell them to add it to their library if it free, they don't even need to open client or be on PC they can do it from mobile Steam app, or via browser from any device, and all they have to do is just by clicking add to library that it.

You can tell them game name, or post them url link to them.

On the general internet someone said that you could obtain a duplicate copy of a free game, then gift the duplicate. There is no way to obtain a duplicate, however. Jerry you are correct, I was thinking that it would be more personal to do it in a gift format.

Gifts that can be stored in the inventory have been almost completely phased out in... I think that was 2016. Could be, that it worked back then, but the info is seriously outdated.

Send the game link along with an excuse and a tight virtual hug to make up for it. :-)

I wish this was an option. I have a friend who is extremely inconsistant with checking personal messages on any platform, but does regularly have steam open(despite not checking messages there much...), and I found a free game I know they'd like, so gifting them it as a popup they'd never miss would be a lot smoother than sending a link and just hoping they'll notice.
