What is the point of sending a code if they don't send it?
I've been attempting to install Steam on my laptop for several days now, but I haven't received a verification code. What's causing this delay? Without the PIN, how can I access my account?

Have you considered the possibility that maybe you're the one not receiving it? Check your spam folders, et cetera.

Granted you're even on the Steam Guard email at this point. If you're on Mobile, just use the app, they're not sending you any codes as the codes are generated by your phone itself.

Are you using Steam Guard over email or mobile app?

Other crazy ideas.
And same goes with who said that ISP could not make a mistake if this is email or mobil.
its rare but we have seen it happend before. ( more frequent in the old days. )

most here will say within 10min then resend it , same downtim max 30min , then you know something is wrong at spam filter or you never recived it or it reach you.

I have an old phone number and in order to change my number I have to have access to steam guard which I don't. They are not sending me a code to my email so that part of the security process doesn't work. I am at a loss here and I can't figure out how to control my steam. This is not just steam. This goes for all types of online software and social stuff. It's getting ridiculous with all this security. The security is so high, we get locked out of our own accounts. It's quite simple. Send me the code to my email and solve the problem.

Well, if "nobody" is sending you codes, then maybe check your EMail handling...

Also, while you're still logged in (eventually you'll loose that login, and then you'll be stuck trying to login again since you can't get the code...), check whether you've actually entered the EMail address you think you've entered.

They don't send me codes. Can't get code from phone. Trying to remove old phone and can't get code sent. Chose to the point where I have to add my username password. Session expired every time. It's as if though the Steam Gods don't want me to access my account anymore or change anything. Codes from other applications are sent fine.

"This account recovery session is not valid anymore, please try again"

Also, in order to use steam guard, I have to pay for an authenticater. I don't want to spend money for a 2 form authentication. Before anyone says steam guard is in your steam mobile, I can't access that either. I put in my username and password and it wants to authenticate. What's the point of having a user name and password if it keeps wanting to authenticate through the app that I have to authenticate? Does it make sense? 2 form authentications are pretty stupid if you ask me.

What makes you think you need to pay for the authenticator?

Not understanding why something is the way it is may have to do more with your level of understanding and expertise than the thing not making sense.

I have two authenticators in my phone. One of them is a monthly fee and the other is battle net and google. I don't have an authenticator for steam nor can I find one in the app store. It's basically within the mobile app. Go figure! You have to access the mobile app in order to authenticate steam but to do that you have to authenticate to a access the mobile app in order to access the authenticate. Does that make sense?

No, since you didn't address the question. It looks like you answered some other question someone else asked.

What makes you think you need to pay for Valve's mobile authenticator?

I understand the issue where you're not getting some code at some point and that's preventing you from logging in. Seems like most other people are managing it just fine, the boards aren't flooded with people with your woes. So one could infer the issue is something closer to your end than Valve's.

Regardless if you're not able to log into your account, maybe you should create a support ticket.

What valve authenticator? I don't see anything like that on the App store.
Ferox_Stormdragon Apr 3, 2024 @ 11:26am
why bother with email codes when you can use the app to scan the QR code.
Ankido Apr 3, 2024 @ 11:27am
To make things clear so people understand and I appreciate the help.

  1. I don't have access to authenticator
  2. If authenticator is in mobile app, I don't have access
  3. username password correct, can't log in without authenticating
  4. Not sending code to email to authenticate
  5. Phone number has changed, can't change on steam without authenticator access
  6. Authenticator apps are behind pay wall
  7. Steam support not responding, can't move steam to laptop

Do you see the flaw in autnenticators? It blocks the user not just hackers.

Well you seem to have a problem being overly literal.

Who makes Steam? Who makes the Steam mobile app? Who makes the authenticator in the Steam mobile app? The answer is Valve. Since we're talking about Steam and the mobile authenticator, both software that Valve makes, referring to Valve's software as Valve's in the singular possessive isn't some kinda out out of bounds language.

Apologies for the confusion: What makes you think you need to pay for the mobile authenticator included in the Steam mobile app that Valve wrote and doesn't charge a fee to use?

No. Your issues aren't necessarily Valve's problem or shared by all other users. And at the moment it doesn't seem users relying on email Steam Guard are reporting issues, so why are you the only one affected? It's definitely an argument against a Steam issue.

If you can't login how are you sure the account is currently configured to send email to the account you expect? Are you not getting the codes because Steam isn't sending them? Or because the account is currently using a different email than you remember/expect/assume?

The Steam mobile app is the only authenticator for Steam, and it's free.

  • Steam support not responding, can't move steam to laptop

Now we might be getting somewhere. "Not responding" as in "they just close the tickets without a response"? That means your account was hijacked.

Did you check that the EMail address that Steam uses is actually yours? It would be a quick and simple explanation for Steam "not sending codes" to you...
