Microsoft vc Redistributable
I recently bought a new computer and now I have a problem with every steam game I go to play. I launch the game and every time it says "running install script (Microsoft VC Redistributable)" which takes about 10 min to go thru. I have tried to reinstall microsoft vc redistributable but still the same thing. This only happens on Steam games

Well there's lots of them, and each game may install a different one. Quick glance I've got well over a dozen different Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables installed. At a certain point you may have enough that you won't have to install so many every time you install a game. But new PC, yeah for a bit I could see you needing them and having to install them as you go.

It has nothing to do with Steam. These are things the games themselves require. Whether or not other launchers install them invisibly or you don't play that many non-Steam games or dumb luck the ones you do don't require C++ redistributables, hard to say.

At any rate Steam can't change the requirements of games. And Valve isn't a fan of hiding details like that. It's not a problem that you're aware that there's other requirements being installed for the game and that is being transparently communicated to you.

then why do I get it on every game I play on steam. I just went thru it on a game. Quit the game and relaunched it and here it is again.

Well generally once it's installed for a specific game you shouldn't need to install it again. Unless the game coincidentally got some major update and requires a different version.

I don't know if that's a Steam problem, it's certainly not an issue I've encountered in twenty years.

What games have you experienced this on (yes yes "every game", but you haven't played every game on Steam, so a few specifics please)? And what version of Windows are you running?

At any rate if the installation fails for any reason and as far as Steam or the game can tell you still need to install it, that would explain the behavior. But what you describe does give us something to research.

Could be some kind of permissions issue maybe. Although I wonder how games are even running if the redistributable isn't actually being installed. So I guess I wonder how it "appears" that the redistributables aren't being installed when they are.
