Stolen account (deactivate cross-save for d2)
My friend got his account stolen and is now holding it hostage by using the cross-save on pc and asking for money to get it back. How can we deactivate cross save without losing the Xbox account and get rid of the steam account.

If you have access to the account

Steps to take NOW to secure the account:
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)
6. If points were stolen, do a password RESET to cancel the awards/points before they are delivered

Please review how you are logging into Steam, you somehow gave them your log in information. This could of been due to the computer being compromised and redirecting to a fake login, or you using a 3rd party site to login to steam.

If you have lost access to the account

Account Recovery
Make sure you are completely logged out of Steam before you start the recovery process

When doing an account recovery, do not try to rush thru the process. Trying to rush thru normally results in information being missed and time wasted. Take your time and read everything.

Here is a guide that another Steam user was kind enough to make. It will help you navigate your way thru the recovery process if you are having any problems.

You must be logged out of all accounts to start the account recovery process.

You don't need access to the email, phone or password currently tied to the hijacked/hacked account for this to work. Just pick the "I do not have access..." or a similar option when asked.

did you friend secure/recover their bungie account? did they unlink it from steam?
SC Jun 24, 2024 @ 4:02pm
Okay long story short the guy a idiot and gave his account to a guy who made a st3am account and then linked it to bungie.net and now can sign into it anytime. So when he gets on the guy signs him out and is asking for money. Bungie suppet says there is nothing they can do we cam prove the Xbox account is his and is the main. But we have no clue how to go about getting the account removed from cross save or even deactivating cross-save with out authentication from the steam side.
Look how to remove a steam account from a bungie account.
The connection is actually on bungie side.

Yeah but you need to have a authentication from that steam account that guy put on the bungie account. Which my friend has no access to since the guy is trying ti extort money from him.
Is the bungie account from your friend?
Then he can unlink the bungie account from steam.

Here is the breakdown of your post

1) your friend gave his bungie account to a ''hijacker''

2) the hijacker create a steam account and link it to bungie account

3) bungie account was originally link to the xbox account before being given to the hijacker

---------------

The reason why i do the breakdown of your post is because it is very messy

You go mention steam account and bungie account

Then you go and mention xbox account being linked to bungie account

the only thing i can think of is this

Contact bungie support and request to remove bungie account PERMANENTLY
