It's not ridiculous. It's ridiculous to assume that 4 GB RAM (or any amount in general) will last forever. Even Bill Gates was proven wrong about 640 KB RAM being enough for everybody back in 1981.
Are you using the client? Then you're using it as a browser.
Also from what expertise can you determine how much RAM a program ought to use? Programs use RAM, lots of people have arbitrary opinions about that. If you don't have enough RAM, RAM is cheap.
