Steam client using 1600mb memory
This is ridiculous. I'm not using it as a browser; I just have it on in the background so I can launch my games.

Steam uses the Chromium Embedded Framework for its functionality, not Valve's fault.

It's not ridiculous. It's ridiculous to assume that 4 GB RAM (or any amount in general) will last forever. Even Bill Gates was proven wrong about 640 KB RAM being enough for everybody back in 1981.

No it is ridiculous. There is no reason it should cost me that much memory to be able to launch my game.

Are you using the client? Then you're using it as a browser.

Also from what expertise can you determine how much RAM a program ought to use? Programs use RAM, lots of people have arbitrary opinions about that. If you don't have enough RAM, RAM is cheap.
