my friend is afk on a game i own and i cant play
im using steam family share and he keeps going afk on new vegas so i cant play even though i own it how do i kick him off it because if i remove him from the family he cant join it back for a year so wtf do i do

revoke the family sharing then you can play.

Set the game to private or remove them from the family. They can rejoin the same family share at any time the 1 year cool down is for a new family share.

You could call them and tell them to get off the game.

Should it not kick him out if he play it, so i dont think you need to do anything, problem is more why you cant start it. ( as fare as i know that how it should work owner take precedence over own game and he cant kick you out of it, i dont think steam will change this ever.

We are talking about the new Steam Family BETA and no, owner no longer has precedence in the new family system. Every adult in the family has the same rights for every game in the sharing pool.

@OP Thats why the new system is meant for close family members in the SAME household and not "friends" who live somewhere else.
In the intended scenario you can just go over to your family member in the same house and tell them you want to play your game now.
