How much longer before the current one cannot be upgraded anymore?

There was originally, but recently there has only been Summer/Winter seasonal badges.

Assuming there is no Spring badge, and they go straight to Summer, it can be upgradable all the way up to the start of the Summer sale. *-ish.

That's a question only you can answer. If you have the points to burn and would like a quick way to build points for levels, it might be worth it to you.
