If your name not being updated via discord when you make changes from steam, that a discord issue not steam issue, afaik for it to update is to unlink, then relink the profile to update correctly.
additional info:
I haven't relinked my steam to my discord ever since I changed it to DS: Artorias of the Abyss (PS3), so it still shows "Mary Hayakawa" on my discord, maybe that's the cause of the issue?
Now reason why I asked is if the name being changed without you doing anything, and happening on it own, then means someone on your account. That why I list the steps.
For discord that just their side, discord doesn't affect Steam. What discord does when link profile it copies the current name when linked, and if it updates then likely update at their own time rather than what you do on Steam, and to force update on discord to display correct name to display your Steam name changed, you have to unlink, and relink that about it.
Now of course the only reason your name change to your Steam ID numbers, is if you have an inappropriate name that got reported, which support removed your display name, reverting to your Steam ID number, you would get a notification about this as well from support under your notification, or yellow/red banner that appear pop up.
Also if you're clicking back button, to go back to see your profile, yeah that cache thing you have to refresh page.
edit: checked the apikeys
Register Steam Web API Key
Register for a new Steam Web API Key
Registering for a Steam Web API Key will enable you to access many Steam features from your own website.
should that be the screen I'm greeted with? I have never clicked it before afterall
reference from another thread:
"If you change your name in Steam Mobile while your computer is blocked ( Blocked, not switched off ) whenever you log back in PC, your name will change again to the one you had before blocking your PC, not a major issue or something else, just that :P" and yes, my steam on the laptop was turned on but without internet
EDIT: managed to recreate the glitch, still, thanks a lot for your information!
