does anyone know why my steam randomly reverted to the username that's linked to my discord?
This is the name that got changed, it got changed to an older name (the username is linked on my discord) until I changed it back, though it still remained on the steam mobile app for a few minutes after I changed it, was wondering if this is caused by my steam account being linked to discord (the name hasn't been updated on my discord) or if I got hacked or something, or is it caused by the name being too long?

Is the name issue happening on Steam, or discord?

If your name being changed via Steam without you making those changes. Then do these steps asap, do not wait.
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/

2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

3. Change passwords from a clean computer.

4. Generate new backup codes.
https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

5. Revoke all API keys, there should be none.
https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

If your name not being updated via discord when you make changes from steam, that a discord issue not steam issue, afaik for it to update is to unlink, then relink the profile to update correctly.

Hi, it happened here, my steam username changed to the username that's linked to my discord, or in other words my previous username, I did not download anything new and judging from my recent steam logins I should be fine, but the name changed did stick on my phone for like 3 minutes after changing it back on PC
additional info:
I haven't relinked my steam to my discord ever since I changed it to DS: Artorias of the Abyss (PS3), so it still shows "Mary Hayakawa" on my discord, maybe that's the cause of the issue?

When you make name change on Steam it may take a minute, or so to reflect across the service.

Now reason why I asked is if the name being changed without you doing anything, and happening on it own, then means someone on your account. That why I list the steps.

For discord that just their side, discord doesn't affect Steam. What discord does when link profile it copies the current name when linked, and if it updates then likely update at their own time rather than what you do on Steam, and to force update on discord to display correct name to display your Steam name changed, you have to unlink, and relink that about it.

Now of course the only reason your name change to your Steam ID numbers, is if you have an inappropriate name that got reported, which support removed your display name, reverting to your Steam ID number, you would get a notification about this as well from support under your notification, or yellow/red banner that appear pop up.

I see, I'll just change everything just to be safe, but is there any other reason that it might happen? it just, randomly reverted to my old username, the exact same username that's before my current one? could something like that happen if someone were to say, report my username to support?

If your name get reported, and support remove it, your name default to your Steam ID number, not what you last name yourself.

Also if you're clicking back button, to go back to see your profile, yeah that cache thing you have to refresh page.

Ah okay, so there really aren't any explanations as to why my steam username got reverted back to the previous one then, I thought it was an issue between steam and discord but I guess not, has there ever been a case where people got their usernames reverted?
edit: checked the apikeys
Register Steam Web API Key
Register for a new Steam Web API Key
Registering for a Steam Web API Key will enable you to access many Steam features from your own website.
should that be the screen I'm greeted with? I have never clicked it before afterall

Sorry for the additional ping, but after reading a few reddit posts could this issue be caused by having multiple devices? I just realized that I opened my laptop after a few months of not using it (before the name change) and I haven't properly closed steam yet on that device, could that be the cause?
reference from another thread:
"If you change your name in Steam Mobile while your computer is blocked ( Blocked, not switched off ) whenever you log back in PC, your name will change again to the one you had before blocking your PC, not a major issue or something else, just that :P" and yes, my steam on the laptop was turned on but without internet
EDIT: managed to recreate the glitch, still, thanks a lot for your information!

I'm not sure on this side of things, normally should sync with the server when make the name change, so if for some reason this causing a revert when you reconnect to server from a device that hasn't sync, it possible, but I haven't test this out if that true, or not, I assume not because you sync with the server, and I assume client hasn't refresh so relaunching the client may fix that issue on the device displaying past name.
