Steam won't open on Windows 11
As per title. Ever since a combination of either Windows update or Steam, I cannot open Steam at all.

I can see the process in the task manager but no windows nothing. No error messages. I uninstalled/reinstalled a dozen times, tried everything I could find on the troubleshooting guides etc but no luck. Support could not help.

Wondering if anyone has any magic idea or if there is a way to enable some "forced" logging so that I could maybe get an idea what is going on and why it won't open?

Any help is appreciated (I just do not want to reinstall my machine just for that... :()

Thanks!

Also

Windows 11 24H2 unstable version is not compatible with the latest gpu version
Iceira Jun 21, 2024 @ 11:37pm
ppl can find several post with why we say reinstall GPU driver, its not a Microsoft issue its GPU Driver issue and version check issue. ( again a GPU brand card own problem )

Microsoft do not make other Brand product driver they are given to them.
this is well know for most tech person.

not a MS problem if driver even work, just so it dont crash core stability. ( so technicaly you can install the driver and nothing works. )

also why i tell pll this. ( and so should other steam users ) that know this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aloo why in so many post its say make custom install and make a clean install then checkbox is there.

this is standard reply from Nvidia live tech in most of the time, AMD users use DDU. and still do as fare as i know even then some AMD users say AMD also have clean install now. in the past.

gl with it.

i haven't receive the update yet on my Windows 11 computer even now

i also found out Windows 11 24H2 is only rollout for those who opt in to use beta version

https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2024/05/22/releasing-windows-11-version-24h2-to-the-release-preview-channel/

1) UPDATE 6/15: We have resumed rollout of Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100.863) to the Release Preview Channel.

-----------

It turns out the problem is really with Windows 11 24H2

Today, we are making this year’s annual feature update Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100.712) available in the Release Preview Channel for customers to preview ahead of general availability later this calendar year.

Windows 11, version 24H2* includes a range of new features such as the HDR background support, energy saver, Sudo for Windows, Rust in the Windows kernel, support for Wi-Fi 7, voice clarity and more. It also includes many improvements across Windows. For example, we are introducing a scrollable view of the quick settings flyout from the taskbar, the ability to create 7-zip and TAR archives in File Explorer (in addition to ZIP), and improvements for connecting Bluetooth® Low Energy Audio devices. We will be sharing more details in the coming months on many of the new features and improvements included as part of Windows 11, version 24H2 leading up to general availability. Please note that the new AI features such as Recall announced earlier this week will not be available on your PC after installing this update today as they require a Copilot+ PC. For more information on those new AI features and Copilot+ PCs, see this blog post here.

[ADDED 5/30] As part of the Copilot experience’s evolution on Windows to become an app that is pinned to the taskbar, we are retiring the WIN + C keyboard shortcut. For new devices that ship with a Copilot key, this key will open Copilot. For existing devices without that key, using the WIN + (number position for Copilot pinned to your taskbar) is a great way to open Copilot.

-----------

The conflict is most likely the ''copilot+pc'' that replaces ''win+c keyboard shortcut''

Must be a 3rd party program causing it

Since i can log in to steam without any problems at all on my desktop

e.g ccleaner, full version malwarebytes are known to conflict with steam platform

No, it's not? What are you talking about? There's no evidence this has anything to do with keyboard shortcuts. I also realize the thread title mentions Windows 11, but this affects multiple operating systems. I myself use Windows 10. My last comment linked Linux users affected. @bloopface just confirmed that removing their primary graphics option is a workaround. It's as if you're just copy/pasting the first search result or blog post you find. Please stop spreading misinformation.

Main board issue is not a steam issue, if you cant deal with your IGPU issue, most will say buy a pc without it. ( this is fact and part of the ways, if you cant get a person with tech insight to help you. ( i can tell you steam will not do it for you, and same will game devs say.

Microsoft will not fix your dual gpu issue gor you that why it ends at you and board support.

Pretty sure every helper and steam user will say it, ( we are not here to judge you , we try ytell you how we have learn it over the many years as pc users. ) you bnought it , then ithats the problem with thats product.

and be happy we try to tell ppl this, post has actual noting to do with me.

its your choise to use wrong IGPU , but you also told any here, we are not going to help or can fix it for you..

your choise.

dont forget we are steam users here, not support.
Honey, I am the tech person. Buying a whole new PC is not a solution, and I hope you won't presume that all the users affected by this issue have the means to even do so. I also have not asked you or anyone here for support, so please don't insinuate that I've done otherwise.

You are correct that Microsoft will not fix the issue, because there's no evidence that Windows is the cause and no amount of calling support numbers would get anyone with a reasonable knowledge of graphics drivers necessary to create a workaround. There's not much I can do except try to keep this thread somewhat factual until we (hopefully) get word from Valve.

But you will never get a word from valve, dual card issue hase been there sense 20 years ago, we other see it at intel onboard with Nvidia card so long ago, nothing has change this, other then user now think valve will still fix this today.

This is the problem you bought it, go to that place with the support issue.
and you should already know this, if you work with IT.

Dont pull that leg here i work with IT and then you do not know who has support for product.

Also had this issue, have rolled back to 23H2 to fix it. Tried so many things, all the command line args, reinstalling Steam and all cache clears, tried three drivers (incl 551.86), network/netsock commands, disabling various Windows 11 features in 24H2, anti-virus exemption. Nothing would get the Steam Web Helper to load.

Is the problem resolved after rolling back to 23H2?????

I am in the exact same situation and have tried everything that has been suggested thus far. My Steam has been down and unusable for almost 48hrs now and I haven't heard a peep from Steam support on anything.
I worked on it for about 12 hrs and then just had move on.

ps.
dont forget other side of this, steam will not post and then it look like adminting they are resposible for it, then it work for so many others, im sure many forget this other side of the current issue , until they can proof it.

Can confirm reverting to 23H2, resolved. Then updated back to 24H2, issue immediately returns, never opens.

In my case, reverting to version 23H2 did not solve the issue, and none of the suggestions from the forum thread worked.
