I know this sounds very weird but could you please add me on steam. I would like to chat with you about this, since I had the same problem with rainway and some of my inventory items were sold aswell
Hey m, sry I don't feel comfortable adding you. Any thing that can be talked about rainway can be shared publicly. Except your/mine private information. With that said is that ok?

Stay away from (rainway)

also windows defender does not pick up the threat nor does it warn you about the website if you were to visit. get a secondary virus and malware software.

well the drama of rainway continues lol. im being blackmailed now, for 1000$ in bit coin, if i idont pay this person will leak all my passwords. the person was so kind to include all the email effected and every single password that i was using on and my from my web browser. conveniently. im annoyed but dont care because iv spent the last 3 days changing every thing.

any ways make sure there something other then ms defender on your system.

Defender probably didn't alert on it because you granted it permissions upon installation. The UAC prompt should have appeared, depending on your system's security settings, to at least warn you that it was going to make changes to your system. Norton, as always, goes a little extreme so it doesn't surprise me that it alerted you of it. However, a little common sense wouldn't have necessitated Norton's assistance.

Development for Rainway ended 4 years ago. Between then and now, who knows how many security holes have been discovered. And you would have had to download it from some 3rd party source who could have added whatever they wanted to it.

Remote software, as a whole, are attack vectors into your system. They are useful and excellent to have but there are a lot out there that are insecure. You really have to do your homework.

Having said that....

I don't envy you. That's going to be a nightmare to fix and I wish you the best. Do whatever you can except pay those bastards any money. String them along while you get your passwords changed and once you've resecured your accounts, tell them where they can shove their bitcoin.

usually I'm super careful but I was Google-ing it seemed fine. Had pro website flashy graphics. Any ways I least I was able to have most websites 2auth and such. Scary point is when my bank and credit card said I have maleware on computers and my passwords were leaked.

woke up to the same issues but I never heard of or used rainway. All the purchases were made in other countries for a measly penny. Some of my cards are worth a buck or 2 and sold for pennies! My account is secure, 2fa and all that. Never signed into steam with games ie genshin, call of duty, etc.

You account is clearfly NOT securfe. 2fa is just another key, if you give it away along with you username and password someone else gains access. Rainway or another makes no difference. You either used a dodgy site or a compromised device.

I suggest you READ the thread you Necro'd and follow the steps provided to SECURE your account.

I taken all the steps in securing my account. I dont visit or click any suspicious websites or links. My pc is scanned upon start up and shut down. No one but me has access to my email, pw or steam account. This is happening to too many people. Steam needs better security, point blank. Idc if its a 1 cent card. Thats MY fkn penny!

Cept everyone else that it doesn't happen to have secure devices and don't go around using dodgy sites.

Steam could add 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999

extra layers of security and all that would do is piss users off. Hijackers would just update their phishing sites to get users to enter all those steps. Compromised devices like the example I gave wouldn't have to change a thing

They don't need to be suspicious, all they need to be is spoofed and convincing enough for you to log in with your credentials or by scanning QR code.
Or it was a malware that you caught and deleted long time ago but they already had your login data.

Same happens to me, but im not using any 3rt party app related to steam. The thing is if i try login Steam in other PC, they ask me for email confirmation code, and mobile confirmation, so even if my PC have some type of malware (i run malwarebytes and dont find any) how can someone login in your account in diferent PC and country and steam dont ask for email confirmation or mobile app confirmation? Hard to understand...
