What does unchecking a DLC do?
One of the games I enjoy a lot has a few DLCs. I own them. So far so good. There's a new DLC coming (unless the Devs do the right thing, lol, and release as a separate game), and it will most likely be a new DLC :( because the devs are revisting all the original content, replacing with new renders, new mechanics, and adding new content.

I will end up buying the new release because I am a fan. But I love the game mechanics as they are right now. So I want to be able to play my game as it is now, but still buy the new DLC and try it out, too.

Will I be able to toggle back and forth between the game in its current form with existing DLCs just by unchecking the box next to the new DLC? Or will I have to uninstall everything?

I have searched Steam help, but the DLC help did not come anywhere close to answering my questions. And I have searched the steam forums, too, before posting this thread. But searching for "uninstall DLC" and "uncheck DLC" just gave way too many threads, and none of the ones I read answered my questions.

Would appreciate advice!

In theory it means it's not active in the game when it's unticked so you won't be able to use it whilst playing, but you won't need to uninstall anything.

One potential problem is it could break your saves depending on how its coded and what the DLC is, i.e. if you play and save with the DLC active, then untick it and reload the save the game might expect you to have DLC items you don't which causes a conflict.

The reality is you'll only really know what the impact is by trying yourself when it becomes available, Which is why you haven't found an answer because the answer is it depends.
