lagging issues while streaming

ive tried streaming 4k videos on discord with friends and I experienced zero lag and could easily skip through the video without even needing to load, my download is 100mbps and my upload is almost 40mbps and yet the moment I try to stream a game from steam it lags so bad to the point where I cant hear anybody in the call and it'll go from green connection to red someone please help i tried changing the settings on steam to the least powerful in the library and it still hasnt worked, I've tried asking everywhere and searching everywhere and haven't found a fix for this

I am unsure what you are asking here,

Are you streaming through steams "Watch Game" feature or are you playing a game and streaming the game using discord?

When I've streamed in 4K I have seen my upload spike as high as 50mbps at times, it is possible you are being trans-coded down.

If you're using the steam "watch game" feature it could just be routing issues causing packet loss

Maybe just stream in 1080p, not really a need to stream in 4k unless all of your friends have a 4k monitor.

what i mean is ive tried streaming my steam games through discord streaming and it lags severely and what i mean by 4k is that i've put some movies in 4k resolution and it still doesnt lag my discord streams yet playing subnautica, sonic frontiers or some other games for just 1 second while streaming makes everything lag including chrome

no im using the discord streaming feature and not using any features from steam other than playing a game from it ofc

Open your task manager while streaming,

If anything is 90-100% then you're being throttled by your hardware.

just checked nothings over 70 this is so frustrating idk why this is happening and its only happening to me so i know its a fixable problem

We can't fix your Wifi issue then we have no clue if there is not a bad spot.

WIFI bounce on wall and doors and water is a wall like a fish tank, there is many things like this, but you will not seem them here. ( reinforced concrete ) i cant use wifi at bathroom. signal and bathroom door even matter how angel it is, so you see explan this here, where wifi router is at your house/flat and what it has to do to reach your device..

And yet you could sit next to it, and its still wifi router that is the issue.
check router firmware and update/reset it might help or not.

literally even the lowest quality doesnt work its not a wifi issue because streaming minecraft on high quality works literally anything works but steam games so its a steam issue because i tried streaming on google meets and same thing it lagged yet when i play a non steam game it didnt lag so pls help i genuinely need this fixed

Hey There, It could be a steam overlay issue, Im not 100% sure but just throwing ideas around, Try disabling the steam overlay for a game and then trying to stream again

This can be done by right clicking on the game in your steam library and selecting properties, then in the General Tab there should be a slider to disable steam overlay.

Make sure to restart the game, then attempt to stream again.

40 mbps UL = 5 MB/s UL

Streaming at 4K by 40 mbps just hits the scratch to be able to stream at ~ 50 fps "only",
and of course it depends on your picture quality . . .


Ps.:
I have just read about WiFi is being used.
Setup your Router and your PC to use 5 GHz only, and to disable 2.4 GHz connections

2.4 GHz has a longer range but cannot transport a bunch of "mbps".
5 GHz and 6 GHz has a shorter range but can transport GIGABITS per second easily . . .

Aditionally use WiFi 6 / 6E . . .

im not using wifi im using ethernet so how do i make it so its only 5ghz and also IF that doesnt work what should i try? i also tried turning off the overlay and didnt work either soo

tried it, didnt work :( im so sad cus its a personal problem none of my friends have it so i know its fixable just that I CANT FIND WHY THIS IS HAPPENING

Check your Ethernet Cable not being damaged and it should be MINIMUM "CAT 5e" cable

okay i will definitely get to that but wouldnt it be a steam issue instead of an internet issue? since playing games outside of steam doesnt seem to affect my streaming quality but its only specifically steam games but with an exception of the game katana zero i just found out, so i dont know why that game specifically doesnt lag but the others do, do u think it could be a steam issue instead of an internet issue?
