MW2 Key Lost!

Hey folks,
one of my friends wanted me to gift him Call of Duty MW2. I got the Product-Key, so I tried to gift him the game, but I accidently activated the game for myself, even though I already had it. Now I can't gift the game, because Steam thinks I wanted it for myself. What can I do to reset the activation? Is there anything I or Steam can do?

If you already had the game, you wouldn't be able to activate the cd key.

Why didn't you just send your *friend* your extra product key?

It actually sounds like you were trying to change a key (acquired outside of steam) into a giftable inventory item. Yeah, … you can't do that.

Well, it worked...
I think it would be helplful to say I got banned because someone in our TDM-Lobby hacked, just like my friend who was in the same lobby. All in our lobby got banned -,-

Well man, I never downloaded any Hack, I just joined the lobby and was Prestige 10 lvl 70, after that i got banned

Unfortunately, that doesn't happen. We got from CD key activation to VAC ban, are you trying to find some explanations? If everyone got banned for joining a modded lobby then VAC system would be gone for good.

Please, I don't want to hear "that doesn't happen". It just happened 30 minutes before. I don't know what happened and how it happened, I wanted some advice, nothing more. If you want to say anything else, then just don't answer.
