Full Screen YouTube
How do you make a YT video full screen in a game community page when using the Steam Client?

If that's not possible, how do you launch that same video in your browser when using the Steam Client?

That's cool. But it doesn't work. It opens Steam's YouTube in Steam's Web browser. Then when I click on the URL in that window it opens YouTube in Steam's Web browser. I click on the url in that window, nothing happens.

To recap.

I'm sure there's a way to copy the url, then open my browser and past it there. I haven't figured out an easy way to do that yet.

1) Click on Community atop the client
2) Click on any game up top (preferably a popular one)
3) Scroll down until I see a video.
4) Click on the video, which opens a new window and clearly is showing a YouTube video embedded in Steam. I want to watch it in fullscreen. The option to choose fullscreen is disabled. If you hover over that button option it says: Fullscreen not available, learn more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/72689

If you’re watching videos on websites other than YouTube, the option to use full screen mode may be turned

Since I want full screen, I can't use Steam to play a YouTube video, it needs to be watched on youtube.com, the url of the video says "https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=..." which is steamcommunity.com - not youtube.com

All I want in step 5 is a button that will load the YouTube video I'm playing into my browser. Here's the best option I just discovered.

5) Right click on the video, select Copy video URL
6) Open browser. Press: Ctrl+V, Enter
7) Profit.

This works, because YouTube recently added Option #5. Let me show you how this worked in the past and we instead replace Option 5:

5) Click on the URL. That will open the exact same URL in a new window, literally at the bottom of Windows there's a new Window. This window does not have a maximize button, but you can maximize it by dragging the window to the top of the screen, double clicking on the title bar, pressing Windows + Up arrow, Shift + Right clicking on the window on the taskbar and selecting maximize. There's options. Once that's maximized, the video now has a non-greyed out maximize button. It doesn't work. If I click maximize, it will fill the entire blue area of that window with a grey box and I assume this is how large the maximized video would be if it worked. What's neat is I can click on that grey box to play/pause the video or double click it to unmaximize it. It simply won't show the video at all if I maximize the video.

Next step is to load this video on youtube.com because steam's browser is bugged and youtube won't let it play fullscreen.

6) On the video, when it's paused, click on the title of the video, inside of the video

7) Now we have a second new Steam window open, you can maximize this Steam window same as before. Great news, this time the video is loaded in youtube.com , But this Steam Window still has the same bug in step 5, the fullscreen button in youtube doesn't work. I have to assume it worked at one point and youtube simply stopped it from working or else Steam would never allow this madness.

Not done yet. Now I have the URl atop that window. This is where I get stuck. I can not reliably copy that youtube url into my clipboard 100% of the time. There is some bug that only selects the first few characters after I select copy or press Ctrl + C. I usually get it on the second try. It would be nice if I could just click that URL and it load my web browser.

There's a few ways to put that url into the clipboard, have to select it , then copy it. To copy there's either Ctrl+C or right click on the URL and select copy. I found Ctrl+C way more reliable, but still not 100%. To select it, double or triple click it, drag select it, press Ctrl+A, right click and choose select all.

Like I said, after copying, you have to paste that into your browser and press enter. That works maybe 20% of the time on the first try, 100% of the time by the second try, because copy often doesn't copy all of what you have selected for some reason.

8) Watch the video in your browser.
9) Make the video full screen
10) Beg people to stop putting videos on Steam and stop this madness

What's crazy, the new step 5 that youtube provided (thank you google!) was just introduced in the past year or so. This bs has been like this for almost a decade in Steam.

Found a fix.

I fixed it by turning off hardware acceleration on the Steam client so it stops trying to use my GPU.

Steam > Settings > Interface > "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views"

That works and now I can view youtube videos in full screen. I'm using 150% scaling on a 1440p monitor and steam client is dumb.
