Why can't I send any game to friend in California here from Norway?
It says I can't send the game, no matter what I try, because of "regional differences" I think the prices are the difference. Is there any way to figure out what games are same price in both Europe and USA? Thanks for any suggestion that might work. She really deserve a friendly surprise, as she sent me some really cool games, and I haven't had money for that expensive titles...

Send a digital card but please read>Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if my friend lives in another country?
The digital gift card you purchased will automatically be converted into your friend's currency.

Any region restriction on a product will be clearly noted on the product's Steam Store page as shown below. Most products purchased for yourself on Steam do not have region restrictions. Please read

The price difference is there to deter abuse. It sucks for the people that used the store to legitimately gift games to friends around the world but people were taking advantage of it to commit mass fraud so Valve had to implement stricter store measures.

There are a lot of great deals on HumbleBundle and Fanatical for Steam keys and you typically won't need to worry about region with those. You can often get great game bundles with a variety of keys that you can use for yourself and share with friends.

So it's not possible anymore :( I so much wanted to send Kind Words, as it's brand new game, but I'd claim it will become a cult classic, and that it's like digital medication for sad feelings, remind a bit like PLAYNE, a meditation, only it really changed me.

Why not remove the people doing fraud instead of the ability for friendship to develop? :winter2019sadbulb: She have sent me much more expensive games, as I haven't had much money - and it's not about money, but that she's a nice person.

I'm guessing games are more expensive here in Norway, since everything is, or do the taxation work different for different nationalities?:goldencoins::goldencoins::summer2019flag:

How about the ability to gift for example AMERICAN PRICED GAMES TO PEOPLE IN AMERICA, and others can GIFT NORWEGIAN PRICED GAMES TO ME? Letting people know why it have to be done like that??? Really made me unhappy to hear this. An American woman that really got pissed off at me, but it was me being lost in translation, and then she figured out my "disgusting personality" is just sick humor and irony, and that we were very similar, despite age difference and nationality and distance and gender etc. and became great friends. *

I think Steam should really be a place where such things can happen, I hardly ever meet anyone that is similar to me or even barely understand me...

How about things I get from game cards? Can I send gems, series of cards for a game, background or badges? Is it possible to get help from support and send a gift card to suppport and then ask them to buy games for friends? Sorry for all the questions, but...

It's REALLY not the same thing to be sending a GIFTCARD... :winter2019joyfultearsbulb:

I meant if Steam did that on behalf of the customers.

Kurumi: Thanks, but I'd rather just not send anything then.

Thanks for answering all. :)

I didn't know there had been any change of rules in this, so hence I didn't read any FAQ, since it's been no problem earlier. :\

If the game is advertised to you at a certain price, they must charge you that price. They can't wait for you to select a friend to gift it to and then say "Nevermind, your friend lives in a region where this game is more expensive, so now you have to pay an extra 5 bucks."

I thinik it should be fine to send a gift, if the prices in the us is higher then you pay the price for the region of the person your trying to gift. problem solved. The way it is now is sad and annoying for everyone who has friends abroad that you wanna suprise and be nice to.

Still illegal. They are literally not allowed to charge you a price other than the one they advertised to you on the store page. If the solution was really as easy as "Let me pay you more money," I'm sure it would've already happened.
