priority of items sold
I wanted to know the priority of sales of the items in the steam market. I often see someone ordering an item for 0.06 USD and buying that item from someone who advertised for 0.05 USD and there are ads for 0.06 USD. Help me understand.

Lowest, and oldest sells first. Example you have item for sale for $1, and you're the 1st person to list it at that price point, and later10 other people list same item for also $1, and no one list their item less than $1, you have 1st dips to sell your item 1st, because it is the lowest price as no item lower than $1 at the time, and your listing is the oldest. So when someone place buy order for item for $1, you item will sell 1st.

Now if someone let say his name bob list item for 99 cents, after you have listed your item for $1, then bob with the 99 cents listing will sell first because it's the lowest price for sell, so when someone place buy order they will get the lowest price item 1st.

Do you understand now? Now there are other currency on Steam which there is well over 30 other currencies on Steam, if prices are not accurate, because of currencies differences, so you may get confuse why newer one for same price sold first instead of the older one, that because it was cheaper in another currency it was listed in that is why.

but I have a doubt.
An example:
I am observing a more recent activity in the steam items and today I noticed something, a person requests an item for 0.05 but already announced items announced for 0.04; 0.05; 0.06 and ahead and I noticed that the person who ordered for 0.06 she bought the item for 0.04 and there are ads for 0.06.

Are you looking at Buy order, or sell order?

Buy orders means people place order, are asking someone to sell their item at the price, or less, that means if they ask for item to be sold at $1, or less, then the 1st person that list their item for $1, or less will be sold on the spot. Now if person sell item for 99 cents, the buy order for $1 will be done because asking for $1, or less, the person earn back it 1 cent, because the person sold it for 99 cents.

Sell orders means people are only willing to sell at fixed price only, means you sell item for $1, then you're waiting for someone that wants to buy it for that price, keep in mind, lowest, and oldest price goes 1st.

so, ask someone who is interested in an item for 1.4 and another right afterwards for 1.5. when a person orders that same item for 1.6, he will receive the item that announced first that in this case it is item 1.4?

Yes, because 1.4 is the lowest price.

If you list for 1.5, someone list for 1.4, and someone place buy order for 1.6, the one 1.4 will sell 1st because lowest price.

If you list, and someone both list for 1.4, but his item is one second older than your list, his item sell 1st because it's the oldest.

You all forgot to factor in currency differences as well. A weaker currency makes it easier to out bid. You can place USD$0.0001 worth more than the highest buyer and get it before they do. It shows to higher currency areas as same as what they bid.

I have one more doubt.
if I advertise an item at 0.06 USD and then I advertise the same item at 0.05USD. the first ad that will sell will be the 0.06 ad or is it random?
Dr.Shadowds 🐉 Apr 18, 2020 @ 10:58am
The first one sells is 0.05
USD being the lowest price.

Lowest > Oldest.

Lowest is top priority, oldest is the second priority. That's how it works.

so you don't have an ad order?
I can advertise the same item for different prices.
example: I advertise a box for 6 USD right after that I advertise the same box for 5, 4, 3 USD. Will the first one be sold with the lowest price?
sorry for the questions.

3 USD sells first, then 4 USD, then 5 USD, and lastly 6 USD.

Lowest prices goes first no matter what, it's top priority.

Items sold in order if there more than one item at the exact same price, as it's the secondly priority to sell the oldest listing that at the exact same price.

But how come I'm selling an item for $2 and there are others selling for $1 but every now and then one will sell for $4-$5. I dont understand how that works because my listing should sell before the more expensive ones even if they've been up for longer.

Pls help,
I'm very confused.

Not sure myself if there a work around for that, or incorrect chart listing which does happen time to time.

Otherwise how system normally works is base on currency compare to other currencies when order is placed, and goes by lowest then oldest in that order.

It's a consistent occurrence. Over the past 4 days that I've had the listing up, the same item has been sold maybe 15 times for a much higher price.
