"mark as private" randomly turns off by itself
Anyone else having this issue?

Game was marked as private when I bought it.
Was unmarked when I restarted my pc.
Marked it again, manually.
This worked for a few days, but now it's not marked again.
I'm te only person having access to this pc and my steam library.

According to the Friends window, it as also showing to others (no crossed out eye symbol before the name). After restarting steam, they were back to private and the crossed out eye showed up again.

So be warned. you can't trust this option!

Ah. Thanks for the pointer!

Same problem, is there a solution somewhere in the linked 160 page thread?

If there is, I haven't found it.

A feature to mark something private that turns itself off without notice is much worse than not having the feature.

The problem lies within Steam Workshop items. If you have game X marked as private, and you downloaded Steam Workshop Items aka. mods for game X and those mods get updated, the game will unmark itself from private.

You have to remark it as private everytime your Workshop Items update.

The problem are Steam Workshop mods.

If you have Steam Workshop mods or items installed on a "Marked as Private" game and those mods or items get an update, Steam will automatically remove said game fron private.
This happens EVERY time Steam Workshop Items get an update.

The game this happened with in my case doesn't have Workshop support, so that can't be the whole of the problem.

Regular updates for your game can also cause this.

Just check the next time when one of your mark as private games has an update.

I know you're trying to help, but this amounts to continually keeping tabs on the games you mark as private. Maybe Valve could just fix this?

In any case OP's advice stands, don't trust this feature.

No workshop support for me either. Not sure if there were updates at those times. To me, it seems to happen whenever I go on-line on friends & chat (I have that turned off on default), but even then it's just sometimes. Not 100% reproducible.

I'm having this same issue, game does not have workshop support and this has happened 3 times since the last time it was updated. Can't reproduce consistently and seems to happen randomly. I've taken to checking the status each time I play.
