[SOLVED] Steam library folder is not writable
I just got new SSD Sata but steam does not recognise the drive, and when I add manualy through setting > storage > add drive and click add it says Steam library folder is not writable, I tried to clear cache download, restart steam etc still won't work, does anyone know how to fix it?

Hopefully the drive is formatted and assigned...

it is, still says Steam library folder is not writable
See if this helps:

Steam Folder Security Permissions (Default):

Authenticated Users
System
Administrators
Users

(Authenticated Users has everything but full control)

(Last three have full control)

Trying to think where I seen this issue before with my newer drive.

Can you download anything on the drive?

Oh yeah now I remember, did you allocate the volume?

Is Steam downloaded on the drive?

Perhaps some more details are needed...

yes I check all Steam Folder Security Permision and also I did allocate the volume and I tried move an image to the new driver, it seems the windows had no problem with my new drive it's just steam can't recognise it

Very odd, then you most have issue as Cosa Nostra point out.

can you browse to its disk content and see if steam actual did make a folder there.

or check steam settings storage and see mapped disk is actual there and can you move a old game to it, according to your post now, you should not be able to see or write there, i want to know if you can even move a old game , but is prevented to do it, ( you can say steam see it but system say not writeable, and thats why OS issue might be the problem.

ps.
do not have a usb stick attached with fat32 or exfat i think other steam user once show picture of it attached in computer management and i could see it there.

Hi, I wanna thanks to you all, it fixed now, turns out I need to make a steam folder on my new disk manually then go to the setting on steam > storage > let me choose another location instead of add new drive (du.mb me):steamfacepalm:

how do i mark this discussion as solved?
Interesting solution. Perhaps the only true/best way to make Steam libraries...

Just put [Solved] in front, or back, of the title.

Idk if you can/want to or not but tag your solution as the "best answer".

Note that would only be an issue if you don't have write access to the root of the drive. As if you select a drive it automatically create a folder called "SteamGame" under that drive letter.

Just wanted to say "thanks."

I picked up a new HD and couldn't figure out why something so simple wasn't working. While I would have eventually figured it out you definitely saved me some time, take care.

To all who came here via Google, just create "Program Files (x86)" Folder on the drive :)

Tks man. I was in the exact same situation, tried all the configs but totally forgot to pass an exact path instead of just the drive. Classic haha.
