Steam says i cant accept family sharing invite due to region lock despite saying it only applies to games with region restrictions
I tried to accept an invite from my friend who lives in the US, i am in the UK and Steam's support page says that games and DLC with region restrictions cant be transferred between accounts yet here its just refusing to let me use family share entirely. Can someone tell me why this is or why its not been stated anywhere

The new feature, you can only share with people that have the same store region as you.

One of the requirements is you must be in the same country.

It never states this on the faq for it, just says that any games or dlc with region restrictions will not be available in the other region, which IMPLIES it should be possible

US is North America

UK is in Europe

both are in different Continents and are taken as 2 different Regions.

the FAQ is extremely clear for "region restrictions".

--------------------------------------------

what region is USA in?????

ans: North America

What region is UK in????

ans: Northwestern Europe

Family share but wants to share with friend, kind of mix saying using it for other reasons than family but it is what it is. If they restrict it to same country I see no issue, as there little reason to needing to share with those that not in same country, and for family it's more likely they have their own copy for multiplayer reasons all these years. Plus wouldn't be shocked if some devs start opting their games out from family share if seem to be used for abused to get free rides, or those trying rent their accounts out, which steam support watch for those accoutns that does those things.

Anyways hotsause posted link to join on, and that basically it.

The way it says it is as if specific games are region locked.

The FAQ may need some updates, and you can fuss over it all you want. But the actual implementation of the system is the source of truth. In most cases it's not going to be wrong, the documentation is going to be outdated if there's a disagreement between the two. And the documentation can be updated, the system probably won't be changed to match the existing documentation.

I don't like the newest steam family sharing cause if you cannot share in other region's then what's the point of sharing games with the newest version if you can't share games.......

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
