I always time out while trying to connect to friends
Whenever I try to join my friends in multiplayer games I get timed out and the same happens to them when they try joining me.

the games that don't work so far are, Lethal Company, Portal 2, Portal Reloaded and Palworld

I've tried to play around with my firewall settings and nothing worked and the issue is on Wifi, Hotspot and ethernet. I don't have any antivirus software on my pc just the normal windows one.

I don't know if my friend might have installed something wrong while installing the systems.

you meet them "face to face"??????

or through online Video programs like "whatsapp video chat"????

All the games you listed (Portal 2, Lethal Company, Portal reloaded and Palworld) use peer-to-peer. Make sure at least one of you have a dedicated IPv4 address (also called a public IPv4 address). It may be static or dynamic, but it must be solely used by the individual internet connection only. The one that has such connection should be the host.

Peer-to-peer games seldom support IPv6, therefore connections that use CGNAT or Dual Stack Lite will have trouble with these games.

where can I see if I have IPv4 or IPv6? and how can I fix it?

Face to face although I don't get why this is relevant

As for getting out of CGNAT or Dual Stack Lite, this depends on the ISP. Most ISPs that offer public IPv4 addresses but by default only provide shared ones usually offer them for a monthly surcharge.

okay so i do have both but i still dont get how i can fix the issue.
my dad is in control of the wifi and i need a valid reason to be able to mess with the wifi settings

You must ask your ISP.

yeah but my dad is in control of the wifi settings

that means it's not your router nor internet connection. Therefore, you are not in control over the settings and may have to discuss the steps necessary with him after you and/or he consulted the ISP.

There is no magical solution that fixes IP addressing that does not require administrative access to the internet connection.

If you have WiFi connection issues that cause these disconnects, then you might need to get an ethernet cable instead.

okay yeah but that still doesn't explain why it didn't work with my hotspot from my phone because that is not over the router

Because phone ISPs usually provide CGNAT or Dual Stack Lite, making peer-to-peer impossible.

okay thank you for your help

In addition, even if you got a dedicated IPv4 address on your phone, the Android tethering function (WiFi or USB doesn't matter) cannot do port forwarding which is also necessary for peer-to-peer games to work. IPhones shouldn't be able to do that, either.

yeah disabling the IPv6 did nothing
