Steam cloud overwrote my new save with old ones when switching computers
So I played Palworld on my laptop after switching to PC. Then one day I opened my laptop to check something else, did not play games. After switching back to PC I found that steam cloud overwrote my save to the one I last played on laptop.
So I quit Palworld, and started playing deep rock galactic survivor on PC. Like last time, switching from PC to laptop was fine. But then I changed back to PC I saw my save I played on PC rather than the newer one on laptop. Reopening my laptop found that my lastest save was gone.
I've been on Steam for 8 years + and haven't seen these issues before (Even something similar happened steam always asked me which save to overwrite). Is there any way to restore my saves and/or prevent this from happening again?

How cloud save works.

When you launch game, and make a save file, a file is made/overwritten.

When you close the game, the app detect game has closed, and uploads latest file to the cloud.

When you go to another device, or plan to play offline, ensure you launch the game first with cloud save enable to download latest save you had uploaded before going offline, or tried to make a new save.

If you ever had mistake like delete option, overwrite mistake, or created save that conflict with cloud, don't close game just alt + tab then go to cloud save on account, download your saves this way you have backup, and then just replace files with your cloud save you downloaded, then can close game alt + f4, and carry on where you left off when you launch the game.

To find game exact same location can use PC gaming wiki.

If don't want to rely on cloud save then use gamesavemanager please note you need to manually handle it as it's not automatic as it is with cloud save.

I recently had a steam cloudsave conflict between my laptop and desktop; it overwrote the newest save (my laptop) with an older save (from my desktop). However, if you open up the directory with all the save files, it renamed my laptop save as "SaveData0-[computer_name]", and downloaded the old file as "SaveData0".

I made a copy of all the files in the saves folder in case I messed something up, but I deleted the SaveData0 file, and renamed SaveData0-[computer_name] as SaveData0. I'm not sure how other steam games' save files work, but this helped me with Octopath Traveler 2.

TLDR: Open the folder with the save files, it might have saved the new/old save under a new name. Remove the new/old save and rename the other one accordingly (make backup copy first).

Thats a MS onedrive issue not a steam isssue.
C:\Users\(your system username) > AppData > Local > Pal > Saved > SaveGames or %USERPROFILE%/Local/Pal/Saved/Savegames.

afaik
steam cloud sync newest file only, problem is MS onedrive sync or should i said restore. that version. you once had.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
