So basically I was using Paytm as digital wallet to do my steam payments for buying games now that is no longer available essentially cutting me off from buying games from steam

steam needs to integrate another UPI payment system as it was secure and more convenient compared to traditionally being dependent on Cards ( not all cards can do international transactions)

On January 31, 2024, in line with its jurisdiction under Section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act of 1949, the Reserve Bank of India has directed Paytm Payments Bank Ltd. (PPBL or the bank) to immediately suspend onboarding new clients. At that time, RBI had said that after February 29, 2024, no more deposits, credit transactions, top-ups, or withdrawals will be permitted in any customer accounts, prepaid cards, wallets, FASTags, NCMC cards, etc by PBBL. This deadline was extended to March 15

yes it is RBI has issued notice against Paytm

You can still use it. Just go to prepaid wallet then free charge. Enter your mobile no. And otp then choose hdfc. It won't allow hdfc so click the back option where it says other payments modes and choose wallets and then phone pe wallet then click to scan the code and scan the code using paytm.
