When using a Controller, my mouse takes over and looses controller function

Guys, I would love some help on a very irritating issue ive faced with pc gaming for a few years now and need some help. Everytime i use my controller such as xbox to play pc games, after around 5 minutes i loose all function and the mouse cursor pops up and takes over. I then have to click with the mouse to continue using the controller. ive tried numerous ways to resolve this in the steam settings.Anyone help who has had this or knows what it is and how to fix it I would be grateful and will award you a badge as a thank you cheers, Gareth

Nothing Steam can do as that is entirely up to the game.

If it happens exactly x minutes after you launch a game then it sounds like some third party software is triggering mouse or perhaps even keyboard activity.

Does your mouse come with software utilities perhaps which might be waking it up after x minutes of inactivity?

Is it possible the Windows screensaver is being momentarily triggered? If so, disable it.

Do you have something like Norton Anti Virus installed? I ask because that tends to start scanning after x minutes of keyboard/mouse inactivity - which used to make the mouse pointer appear - and I'm sure it has something called a "full screen" or "gaming" mode in its settings to prevent it.

There are so many possibilities if third party software is causing this. Only you know what is installed. ;)

How is the controller and mouse plugged into the pc? Are any of those 2 hardwired or do they use bluetooth/dongle? If you unplug the mouse and use just the controller does it disconnect the controller after 5 mins?

If Steam is running, try Guide + RB instead of going to the mouse to click.

Do you encounter the same behaviour when Steam is not running?

The games lose focus? Try running the game windowed then it'd be easy to see if that indeed does happen.

Might be encountering an application or script running/doing something and so taking focus away from the gaming window.

Hi guys, so this seems to be an issue ive faced for a long time ever since i got my pc. Now, th ekeyboard is wired but the mouse is a razer and wireless with a dongle. I heared it was steam causing it but not sure. I know its not a hardware issue, but just cannot for the love o fme figure it out and was hoping someone else had the same issue and could find the fix. Also, i have tried in windowed, fullscreen and minimized, still does same thing. thanks so far for your responses to it though

Cheers, so i have the new razer mouse wirless, but ill trying removing the razer software and see if that fixes it, if not ill return.
