Could check if the PS button is shown as active at Steam > Settings > Controller > Test Deice Inputs (Begin Test).
its been a few years since i looked in to it but it came back to the fact sony never released the base coding for drivers to be made.....the drivers out there are generic and dont use the real base coding of the controller......looks like that has not changed as the controller showing up as a mouse was one of the biggest complaints about the generic drivers.....
ds4+5 do have drivers..
In my case, in Big Picture mode, it works as a PS4 controller, but when I start a game, it works as a mouse.
This test has been run.
I would like someone to help me with a solution.
What's controlling the mouse in-game, Right Stick?
If you were experiencing the Guide Button Chord layout, I'd expect the controller to be controlling the mouse even in BP mode, so let's check the Desktop layout / the layout for the game.
If you're playing non-Steam games (or Steam games that Steam doesn't show as running when they are) then I'd suspect the Desktop layout. Even if this is not the case, disable it and see what happens:
- have your controller connected
- Steam > Settings > Controller > Desktop Layout > Edit > Disable Steam Input
- start the game
If mouse control continues, check what the game's layout is set to:
- have controller connected
- go to game in your Library and click the controller icon or 'View controller settings'
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3154337306
- click 'View Layout' and you'll see whether the control (Right Stick?) is mapped to mouse.
(this applies if Steam Input is enabled for that game)
For most games you'll get a gamepad layout by default, but if the game doesn't have controller support or the devs haven't marked the game as having controller support, a keyboard/mouse layout is applied.
In Big Picture mode, the controller works as it should (I use a DualShock 4), but in the game controller layout settings, it works as a mouse, and the game also reflects this.
To elaborate, pressing the circle is recognized as the left trigger, and no other buttons are recognized as anything else.
The fact that I am using a Mac may be complicating matters even more.
1. while in game > Big picture mode > settings > controller > desktop layout
click on "using template:" xxxxxxx
2. under templates > select gamepad (or anything that suits your needs) and apply it.
it should work once you have done this! if it still doesnt, then im not sure how else to help you :')
Sorry been meaning to reply.
This sounds like you first want to get Steam Input working, we want to try having all the controls function. After that I'm thinking switch things around on that games controller layout or try a gamepad layout.
Try the steps here, restart Steam then see if it resulted in the other buttons doing something:

A long time has passed since anyones posted on here but I couldn't find a single fix all over the internet so I thought I'd leave this comment incase anyone still has this issue.. I have tried many things and much advice has not worked. Alas, here is what worked for me:
Settings -> Controller -> Test device Input.
Then it will remap your controller. Skip the playstation button in the centre of the controller when asked by pressing X. That sorted it for me.
Turned out that my for some reason my L1 was triggering my PS controller.
...I've had to play three quarters through Elden Ring without being able to use the block button....
