You should probably give an example of when this occurs

From inside the game, when going to Steam Overlay, click on the picture icon, click a screenshot (the most recent one, which I usually just took right before opening up the Steam Overlay). For some reason, it corrupts and gives that message. The picture is still fine; I can find it in my screenshots folder, but inside Steam Overlay, it just gives that error message and doesn't display the screenshot.

It's happened to me quite a few times that I felt the need to report it and a quick web search for that error message shows many people have reported this problem.

Try the following as a solution:

1) CLOSE and EXIT Steam completely (including exiting Steam from System Tray)
2) Goto 760 folder ( "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\316570250\760" )
3) Delete "screenshots.vdf" file (DO NOT delete anything else)
4) Reopen Steam (this will reupload your screenshots to Steam)

This worked for me. Just as good practices, make BackUp copies of anything you delete, before deleting them.
