Pool of Radiance
I just started the old D&D games, specifically Pool of Radiance. I play in a desktop and laptop depending on my location and situation. How can I keep the game updated/stored so that I can switch between platforms when needed?

Figure out where the save folder is and copy it when moving between machines. A game that ancient isn't going to use the cloud for anything.

Unless he's using the Steam version. A game of that name appears to be contained in a "Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Two", which claims to have Steam Cloud.

As for why it's not working for him... no idea. Should be enabled by default.

Set up something like DropBox[www.dropbox.com] or SyncThing[syncthing.net] and then create a Junction pointing the games save folder to the share location on both computers.
