How large are the backup files for a game, say 80GB?
I have a game installed, haven't played it in ages, and want to get rid of it to free up space. I was wondering how large the backup files were, in case it would be worth backing up the game and still saving space, or if the backup was basically the same size as the actual game itself. So, how big would Steam's backup files be for a game around 80GB? Game in question is PAYDAY 2 in case anybody actually needs that info :)

Just uninstall it. The saves and screenshots will remain. Back those up.
Look in the steam userdater folder and rightclick it for the properties and size.
For the saves you'll have to note the game as saves can be stored in different places.
My Games or in the directory of teh game steam apps is the acf and common the games.
On the store page
Storage: 83 GB available space

....Honestly there might be somewhere between 8 to 12% less... Yet cannot test every single game to that effect.....

Steam syncs game saves in the cloud, no point backing those up as they already exist somewhere else. Also the point of backing it up was mainly just in case I wanted to reinstall the game in the future without having to redownload all 80+ GB of it, especially since my internet is fairly slow.
Edit: also i know how big it is, i have it installed...
