Can you play family shared games online?

If the game allows Family Sharing, sure.

The borrower can not play a shared library if the owner is playing online though.

For all intent and purposes a Family Share game acts just like your own games, so if the game has a online mode you can play it too.
Just be careful that if you cheat in a online game you play via Family Share, BOTH the account who plays the shared game and the original owner of the game will eat a VAC/GAME ban.
