My games crash after less than 5 minutes running
Hello, I am having trouble running Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and 4. Every time I would run it, it would crash in about 5 minutes with no error code or anything. Ive checked the crash logs for black ops 3 and nothing appears while for black ops 4, I get a "[0130/214608.462:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(523)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is disabled, ANGLE is " I have tried so so many things to try and fix the problem and I'll list them below. This also occurred when I was in windows 10 and I thought switching to windows 11 would fix it but it didn't. Also, on task manager, the CPU or GPU usage doesn't spike or anything, they stay in the 30-50%

Exclusions in anti-virus
power plan to high-performance
running as administrator
completely uninstalling graphics drivers
reinstalling windows
verifying/repairing the files
uninstalling and reinstalling
launching in safe mode
setting priority to real-time/high
running Malwarebytes to check for viruses
checking windows updates
switching to windows 11
enabling game mode

There was probably more but I cant list them at the top of my head. This occurs only to these 2 games and every other game is completely fine. I have read so many articles for people with similar issues and solutions but they didn't work for me and this is my last hope ngl. I'll list my computer specs below

i9-13900k
RTX 4080 OC
MSI B760 Gaming Plus
2x16 G.SKILL Trident Z5 DDR5 6400mhz
NZXT Kraken 280
Corsair RM1000x
Samsung 990 PRO Series - 2TB
Windows 11

1. Great PC!
2. Try a previous graphics driver that worked or install a studio driver those are more stable
3. Is anything overclocked? If so it could be unstable
4. Do a Steam file verification on these two games
5. Run it in compatibility mode for windows 8
6. Try launching directly from the executable
7. Change openGL present method to Layered DXGI Swapchain in NVIDIA control panel
:steamthumbsup:Hope this helps

In Windows 11, you can Search for "Event Viewer" in the search field.
Then check the Folder Windows Logs -> System.
If there are any Errors when it crashes, it might help finding the cause.

For BO3 I've seen some improvement disabling all but the primary audio device under "Sound, video and game controllers" in the Device Manager.

Do Memtest.
You're overclocking the CPU's memory controller by using faster RAM.

OP already make this thread 5 days ago at here

https://linustechtips.com/topic/1555599-my-games-crash-after-less-than-5-minutes-running/

--------------------------------------------------------------

i also taken notice of this

1) OP never mention how much RAM he have in total on his computer.

-------------------------------------------------------------

can it be due to hardware in his CPU malfunction completely.

e.g Graphics Card Driver chip in CPU needs to replace and/or RAM Sticks in his CPU, one of them is Bad

that error code OP provides, i notices it have something to do with "GPU".

Graphics Card Driver and RAM Stick are related.

DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ are also related too.

the only error I get in event viewer for black ops 4 is this "The certificate received from the remote server does not contain the expected name. It is therefore not possible to determine whether we are connecting to the correct server. The server name we were expecting is pipes-prod-glutton.public.aws.demonware.net. The TLS connection request has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.
The SSPI client process is BlackOps4 (PID: 30208)." I dont think this relates to the issue of the game crashing

Did a memtest and it says there was no errors found.

I have 32gb of ram and its 6400mhz, sorry for not clarifying sooner.

Also I made that thread but no one responded after so I thought people here in the steam community would help.

I dont think its anything with my gpu, it runs every other game perfectly fine with max settings but its just black ops 3 and 4 that are having issues.

I do think it might be something with DirectX and Microsoft visual C++

kindly check your RAM Sticks in your CPU as well.

sometimes there might be a bad RAM Stick which might be causing the problem.

p.s better be safe than sorry.

I did a memtest and the ram sticks passed.

I removed the ram sticks and gpu and put them back. Still having the issue :steamsad:

Download "CPUID HWMonitor" and check the temperatures of your graphic card. Though 5 minutes do seem way too quick for it to be a temperature issue. You can also try undervolting your graphic card if so by using "MSI Afterburner". But, again, it seems like a stretch.

As the game doesn't crash instantly, then there's probably a error message somewhere that might help. But I have no idea because I haven't played the game myself.
