Download speed problem

Hey!

I have 1000mbps internet, download speed stable 800-900 but on steam it stucks at 6mbps. Why?

- Tried to change region, clear download cache.

CMD commands:
- ipconfig /release
- ipconfig /renew
- ipconfig /flushdns
- netsh winsock reset
- netsh int ip reset

- Update windows, restart router and computer.

Nothing worked...

Yeah, DTAG, which includes your network, throttles Steam on IPv4. Either force IPv6 only use or use a VPN to evade DTAG IPv4 routing.

Steam is not the first one to suffer. Hetzner suffered from this until they gave in and paid up. DTAG is known to violate net neutrality in favor of profit maximization for decades. Cogent Communications even sued DTAG for this.

The issue started recently, probably because an existing peering agreement between Steam and DTAG expired.

Nothing can be done, literally nothing. I've already messaged valve support about it twice and they insist it is either my internet or PC when I've done every single thing that can be done. Every browser and other platform has no issues with using my 1gbps internet. I even tried a completely different internet and my speed was THE EXACT same.

All you can do is pray they fix it, but so far it doesn't seem like it's ever going to happen because they don't want to acknowledge the issue.

Yeah, and it was with a different content ISP. It's a recurring issue with different content ISPs. It's evidence that Telekom didn't do this the first time.

Your best bet is to use a VPN or force Steam to run on IPv6 until both sides come to a satisfactory agreement.

Alternatively, look for a different ISP if you can.

Then you are on a single-stack IPv4 connection (with a dedicated IPv4 address or on CGNAT). In that case, your only remedy is using a VPN.

Glad to see its not just me. I thought it was my internet company cutting back my internet connection . This could destroy steam though ...

My issue resolved but now it's started again like 1 week ago, my friend who lives other side of my country having same issues with the same company.
