Is it risky to use Steam with VPN?

I googled it before opening a title. While some places say It's risky, others say It's not.

The reason I ask this because I can't play CoD due to my ISP. More precisely, I can't even enter the game beceuse I got connection error. I read the solution to this problem is to turn on VPN while entering game. But just because of that, I didn't want to risk my Steam account.

Is there even a small risk of launching Steam with VPN?

As long as you're not using a VPN to bypass regional restrictions or pricing its fine

Yeah, VPN's are a valid tool, I use them at work daily. If you use the tool maliciously, like to bypass region restrictions, that's the problem. Not VPN's in of themselves.

As an added anecdote, I used a VPN on my personal PC running steam to connect to my work PC for a number of years 2013 to 2021. It was all local, within a 40 mile radius, nothing I was doing would cause harm to Steam, publishers or other users. Therefore not a problem.

there are people who are associating VPN with "cheating" in CoD games.

you might get reported multiple times due to it.

there is an ongoing issue in CoD games where "cheaters" go claim their ban is due to using "VPN".

as a result, there is a very high chance of a large group of CoD players will report you "wrongfully" once they learn you using VPN in the game.

Best bet, is VPN is best limited to use in connecting to the forums.
