Steam window keeps opening by itself
I put my PC on sleep mode, and when I get back, Steam has opened a ton of windows. There was a thread about this a few years ago that lasted until 2022, but it was closed without a resolution. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

I'm having to close the windows through task manager. It's getting annoying.

Yeh this happens because as you said you have to close it in task manager or by clicking on the Steam bottom at the upper left and then clicking exit because it's running in the background you just have the main ui closed is the best way i can explain it.

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

Please review how you are logging into Steam, you somehow gave them your log in information. This could of been due to the computer being compromised and redirecting to a fake login, or you using a 3rd party site to login to steam.

very obvious OP's Steam Account is being compromised

To clarify:
Normally, you can close windows using the X, or choosing close all windows in the right click menu on the task bar. I know this doesn't fully exit Steam. These windows that open when I'm away don't close that way. They lock up/freeze and I have to end task in task manager. There are also dozens of them. Steam doesn't usually open a window on its own, even when it's left running in the background.

Thanks for the response though

Thanks for the help. If I don't come back to the thread, this solved it. I usually update passwords on my most active accounts regularly, but it turns out I was using a very old password for Steam still. It must have leaked at some point.

Your PC/network is compromised.

Wipe your disk.
Separate your network between deivces in your home.

Meanwhile, your accounts/passwords, pc files and activities are all open.
