TC in case you want to know, basically in Blood Money, unless you do something suspicious pretty much any disguise you put on will make you invisible to the guards(assuming the disguise you are wearing is allowed access to where you are). In Absolution, anyone wearing the same uniform as you will almost immediately recognize that you are not one of them. Makes sense when it comes to bodyguards in a mansion, who would recognize their fellow bodyguards, but not when it comes to random cops on the street. Hitman 2 was basically a mix, they would recognize something is up in the first scenario but not in the second (much more realistic and better for gameplay imo).
Crap might have been a strong phrase as I did still enjoy the game. It just was not Hitman to me.
Contracts is kinda good too but gameplay feels old
Hitman Codename 47 was the first game. It was VERY rough around the edges, had no in-mission saving or checkpoints, and you died very quickly. (Luckily the enemies did too.)
Was still good fun.
Hitman 2: Silent Assassian is the second game in the series. I loved the music, the disguise system was a little iffy (Guards would shoot you for running, and on the Japan levels the ninjas made a Silent Assassian rating almost impossible.) but you could finally save a limited number of times in a mission depending on difficulty. It improved upon several things from Codename 47 like the ability to non lethally KO people, etc. The levels were great.
Contacts was the third game in the series. It sorta starts right where codename 47 left off, and many of the missions were remakes of missions from Codename 47 with improved mechanics. Disguises were more effective but you still had to be careful.
Blood Money is arguably the best. Nice, open ended levels, customizable and upgradable weapons, different ways to handle the assassinations, etc. I liked it alot.
Absolution was horrible. Linear levels, godawful disguise system where people wearing your same uniform immediately get suspicious from the back and follow you around unless you hold down a button to cover your face, which drains a meter. Still worth a buy though. It's an ok third person stealth-action game, but a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hitman game.
Again, I'd buy the whole set.

Start with Codename 47, once you beat it do Silent Assassian, then Contracts, then Blood Money, then Absolution.
The story is super good, and also the soundtrack... my god what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing soundtrack these games have!
