How does Humble Bundle and Steam work together?

First off, I'm new to Steam so have that in mind.

How does Humble Bundle work? Can I just go to their web store and buy a couple of titles that I want and then download them on here to my Steam account? Does that count as a legit buy, just as if I bought from Steam itself? Can I still re-download them from Steam in the future if I would want to?

I'm browsing the Humble Bundle store now, and I see that prices on games there can differ drastically from the Steam store.

That's exactly how it works ;)

If you buy from Humble Bundle and it says you get a Steam -key; you will get a Steam activatable key that you will redeem on Steam using [Games > Activate a Product on Steam]

You can download and install the game using your Steam -client from then on. In some case scenarios (where Steamworks is its only DRM), you even have to.

Humblebundle is an authorised seller of DRM keys and if you buy a game on there that requires Steam; they will provide you with a Steam key in which you can redeem on your Steam account. The game will function the same as if you bought it on Steam except you wont be able to claim a refund. The game will also be bound to your account forever. Also check out Bundlestars and Greenmangaming which are two other fantastic sites with great deals.

So basically there is no drawbacks to buying games from them instead of Steam. They get imported as usual to my game library and I can still get cards etc.

Then the obvious follow up question is why doesn't Steam match their prices?

Game publishers set the game prices, therefore they can price their own products however they want wherever they want.

As long as they are Steam keys. HB and other stores sell keys for OTHER clients too.

You'll have a few screens but eventually you'll be asked for the product key. Copy/paste the cd/product key listed on in your Humble Bundle page into that screen and click next.

There is no way to redeem the keys without using the client.

I didn't get a key - if they don't mean the transaction code, which I don't think. All I got was a mail with all the games titles and the text "Your games are ready for download - click the pictures". (or something very similar)
