Terraria is not available on your current platform

I'm unable to play Terraria on my mac (OS X 10.11.3) and get the above error message. I can stream it from my PC to my mac but when I shut down my PC the game shows as unavailable on Steam on my mac. I'm very new to steam so any help is appreciated.

Yes, I realize that. I wish to play directly from my mac while I'm not connected to my home network. If I'm not mistaken, Terraria was finally released for mac in December but I haven't been able to actually download the game to my mac. This seems like a necessary first step but when I attempt the download I get an error message.

I only mentioned the streaming in case it helped to eliminate possible reasons that I'm still having issues.

id say uninstall steam restart and reinstall steam and see if that fixes it

10th time is the charm. All of a sudden instead of showing "unavailable" in my games section it now shows "not installed". Installation has begun! Thanks for responding to my question anyway.
