I've received a gift with the Sims 3 DLC on Steam - is there a way to learn its CD key?
I don't have the Sims 3 base on Steam, I have it on Origin. I received a gift with a DLC on Steam. Steam would not add to the library since the base game is missing. I wonder is there a way to learn of the product key for that DLC so I can use it on Origin?

Do I need to ask Steam directly about this?

You must have SIMS3 on Steam, or the DLCs through Steam are useless to you.

Do you know for sure that the key for DLC won't work on Origin or are you just guessing? Thanks

Yes, cause there is no key.
SIMS stuff from Steam is only for STEAM.

Bummer. Time for trading it I guess.

Useless in the sense that you won't be able to get the key as long as it's a gift in inventory. I can vouch, through personal experience, that the keys will work on Origin.

I bought Sims 3 specifically on Steam so I'd be able to buy the expansions wherever they're the cheapest and still have them all end up together on Origin. Maybe worth it to you to get the base game during the next sale.

There may be no spoons, but there certainly are keys. ;)

Thanks, Washell, that's what I naturally assumed since a few of EA games I own on Steam have its CD key provided. I'll try to contact Steam about it before I make my mind what to do with this. Maybe... just maybe... :)

Steam confirmed that I need to have a Steam version of the base game in order to access the DLC itself (and its details) that I received as a Steam gift.

After I got the base game on Steam I also can personally confirm that Steam version of the DLC has a retail CD key, which works with Origin.

Maybe this might help someone else in similar situation.
Have a great game!

So pretty much what Bad-Motha told you days ago.

not quite on topic but this thread has gave me a thought...
if product keys for steam ea games work on origin would that not make it possable to buy the ea game on steam activate it on origin then refund the game through steam.
Cathulhu Feb 18, 2016 @ 10:50pm
In theory yes, but that could backfire as that key may be revoked on Origin as well.
eddiepc Feb 18, 2016 @ 10:57pm
kinda what i thought.
now ive said it im sure there will be someone who tries it.
also now i think about it it would probably say that the key is allready redeemed/inuse.

vs.

".. I also can personally confirm that Steam version of the DLC has a retail CD key, which works with Origin. .."

Spot the difference? :)

It has a key, yes. But you can't do anything with the DLC unless you have the base game as well. It won't pull your key until it's tied to the account, and you can't do that without the base.

So it's essentially true under the current circumstances.

Cheers to all.... and signing off!

Nope. Not pretty much, not even close. Not even in the same ballpark. Bad Motha said this in full:

Both lines in his second post are demonstrably false and since they explain his first post, that's wrong too.
