How accurate is the Steam FPS counter?
I am just asking because I am legit surprised about the FPS I am getting in GTA V with my new setup.

Well... it sounds like you're playing at 1400x900 resolution if you're surprised. The 650 ti is decent card.

Nope 1080p very high settings 70+ fps. Don't assume that ♥♥♥♥ is annoying.

Well, seeing as you didn't provide and specs or resolution or... any useful information, kinda had to, buddy.

Plus, GTA5 is well optimized. I'm sure a toaster could run it if you're not trying to max out AA and other needless options.

Why would I provide specs when my question is the FPS counter accurate? That literally has nothing to deal with my computer specs.

Your point in that? Instead you try and attack me and say im surprised because my resolution is low.

Instead of trying to attack someone how about actually read the question and reply to that instead of going completely off topic.

But a toaster can toast bread at the same time you're gaming. Try to get your rig to do that...as if.

The counter in Nvidia Shadowplay is very effective, as is the counter in MSI Afterburner, not sure about Steam.

So exactly what are that potato's specs?

The only thing potato about my rig is my GPU but I am waiting for my taxes to come in before upgrading.

CPU: i5-6500
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2133MHz
GPU: 650Ti Boost 2GB

I will be upgrading to a R9 390 when my taxes come in
It seems to match FRAPS and some in game FPS counters pretty well.

Surprised why?
Surprised how well it plays or how badly?
Surprised how smooth it feels despite a low FPS?
Surprised how choppy it feels despite a high FPS?
Surprised it runs at all given that half of your components are below minimum spec?
Surprised how slow it runs given that most of your specs are above recommended spec?

I was just surprised on how much of a performance boost I got upgrading from my potato CPU then jumping to the i5. I use to stutter alot on my old AMD CPU and building textures wouldn't load and I would only get 45 fps on low/medium settings.

I upgrade to the i5-6500 and now I am able to play Very High settings with 70+ fps stable. Just surprised about the performance increase.

I had a system with an ancient Phenom 2.2GHz and 8GB DDR2, it totally choked out a GTX960, barely playable. I swapped it out for an i7 920 with a modest OC 3.2GHz and it runs smooth as silk.

What did you have before?

I use to have an AMD A8-5500 it would play the game but sometimes the building textures wouldn't load and the building would be invisible now nothing.
Eh, it isn't the best counter.

I suggest using MSI Afterburner. Even if you don't use the app to overclock, it uses RivaTuner for the on-screen display... which is an amazing monitoring program.

I use to have MSI Afterburner on my old PC I just need to redownload it on this new one. I will probably end up using that once I download it

It's the best overlay/monitor/GPU overclocking program, in my opinion.
