Username Squatter?

If a username has been claimed, but never used, will Steam hold onto it forever? My company wants to reserve our new name, but the name is already being used by someone with no games and no activity. Do we just wait around until it expires, or should we come up with a new name for the company?

(I know they could just be a private user, but it really seems like they're not doing anything with the name but squatting....)

As far ask I know, usernames do not expire. For clarification, are we talking about the account name or the Community profile name?

Assuming you're talking about the profile url:
Right now they're holding it forever, but I'm sure the ever expanding user base will have them review that policy. I don't recall a user ever having success on getting the URL reassigned by contacting support, but maybe companies have better luck.

If this is about the actual login name for the account, it won't get changed, but since no-one but your company will ever see it, pick whatever you want.

If you think that you have been banned unfairly, contact Valve Support. They usually don't remove bans, however.

You can try contacting the URL owner, that would be one option. If you can't make him change it, just think of something creative, as you suggested. People love creative names!
