Hello!, I was wondering if using cheat engine in single player games is actually bad, because I enjoy using it from time to time. (I will never use it online), if it's illegal I will immediately cease the use of it!.
Sorry if it's the wrong forum btw, I wasn't actually sure which one was the correct to post this.

It can trigger a vac ban if you run it on vac protected servers or it runs in the background even when closed when you connect to steam so having it installed at all is something you need to take a risk on when using steam.

Any server that is running VAC.
Source games and some other 3rd party games.

You can search online for the games that are protected by vac or use that link and for the most part it's when you connect to individual servers and if you are playing on your own computer they usually will be no issues unless it has some sort of online ability.

The problem is a lot of these programs will run even when closed that steam can detect if you ever do connect to such a game or server and can result in a vac ban so you either need to know how to kill the program completely other then simply closing it or remove it completely if you don't know how to do that and do play such games.

Not to mention a lot of these are spyware ridden programs that can cause additional issues on your computer.

Cheat engine is a memory scanner/hex editor/debugger. You actually have to select the process of the game, then you start editing stuff. It's fairly complex (unless you already have a table in your hands) and it only works in single player games. Good to see that I wasn't doing anything illegal

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using cheat engine in single player games. However, using them for purposes like leaderboard cheating is a really messed up thing to do, and could lead to a game ban, if the developer/publisher wishes to do so.

Make sure however, even if it is a single player game, that there is no ties to any VAC. Some games that allow for single player are still entirely played on vac servers. Such as Dead Island for example. You can play single player, but you are still on a vac server the entire time. Just look at the store page if you are unsure.

Just remember though that you are cheating yourself (pun intended) out of a great experience in some games. I personally don't have an issue with cheat engine, and have used it many times in the past. Never once to do anything in an online match or to leaderboard hack though. It's a fun tool to mess around with otherwise though. Just be careful, and educate yourself on it before using it. If you get vac banned, it won't be the fault of the program, but the fault of your own self for not knowing how and when NOT to use it.

I never EVER use, or have used it outside of singleplayer experiences. Cheating online is a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing to do.

Never said you did. But you still need to be careful, and check the game before you try to use cheat engine, even if it's single player. As I said, some games are 100% tied to vac, even single player. And leaderboard cheating is a big no no. And those are singleplayer.

Like I said, educate yourself on the game you wish to use cheatengine on before you use it.
