Steam is veary slow at starting up.
when i start my steam it does not start for 15 minutes or more, its like steam is not communicating propoally with the main server, i can se that steamclient bootstrapper is running in my process bar but down in the right hand corner there is no logo. when i try to start steam it pops up with the loading window updating steam, verryfing installation, and after that... nothing for the next 15 minutes.
anyone with the same problem.
sorry for my bad english.

What AntiVirus are you using?

I suggest VIPRE Internet Security for loading Steam quickly.

i hace malwarebytes, and have allways used that with no problems. my gaming rig should have no problems at all starting steam, i have 2 ssd, i7, 12 gb ram 4 gb graphics, so i dont understand how it can slow down so much from day to day.
i have reinstalled steam once with no luck.
its only on strartup its slow, once its open its just the same as allways.

Reset your Steam files.

Delete everything except STEAM.EXE and the SteamApps folder, then run STEAM.EXE.

I am having the same issue, where Steam takes 3-5 minutes to start up instead of the 5-10 seconds it used to take. It also affects the in game overlay, which takes 3-5 minutes to load after starting up a game, where it took less than 5 seconds in the past. I am unable to respond to messages or join games from the overlay until it loads. I think the February 4th update has caused this problem, because it started the exact moment that update was installed. Same as you, reinstalling Steam or forcing a repair install does not fix the issue.

I have the exact same problem which started a few days ago. I tried updating the client to beta but it didn't help.

The game launcher and steam client bootstrapper hang before the game starts, and once the fullscreen game opens it hangs again. If I click during the fullscreen hang it causes the game to crash.

I also seem to be experiencing severe audio clipping with the Steam client open, not 100% sure yet if it's caused by Steam though.
One way to speed up all your games — and Steam itself — is by getting a solid-state drive and installing Steam to it. Steam allows you to easily move your Steam folder — at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam by default — to another hard drive. Steam’s built-in browser can cause lagg there’s a trick that will eliminate this delay open the Internet Options dialog — press the Windows key to access the Start menu or Start screen, type Internet Options, and click the Internet Options shortcut.

Select the Connections tab in the Internet Options window and click the LAN settings button. Uncheck the Automatically detect settings option here, then click OK to save your settings. If you experienced a significant delay every time a web page loaded in Steam’s web browser, it should now be gone. Steam attempts to automatically select the nearest download server to your location. However, it may not always select the ideal download server You should also ensure that Steam’s download bandwidth isn’t limited from here.

Useful advice, but not connected to this issue which is a bug. I have no problems with the browser and I run all games from a solid state. The issue occured suddenly after a recent update.

What OS are others using who experience this problem? I'm on Windows 10. I've seen other threads about this issue but I can't see if anyone fixed it (the search function is useless).

Sometimes the Antivirus and stuff makes it slow. Try disalbing it for steam

The problem is, this is not an Anti-Virus issue. As notorious d mentioned, this is a bug in Steam itself that manifests itself on certain computers. Steam has always worked perfectly, has this update, and instantly starts showing these symptoms? And by instantly, I mean the update reported completion and then Steam took 5 minutes to fully start up. This is a bug that needs to be reported, however, I have found no place to report bugs with Steam.

And notorious d, I'm on Windows 10 as well.

Hey... I just happened to find your thread while I was already listening to this GeniusPieTrap video about the same issue.

I don't think this is the same issue that we are having here. That video is for when Steam won't start at all. I can start Steam but it hangs for minutes before starting and before launching games. I've checked the task manager when Steam is closed and there are no stray processes. My music also stutters when the Steam client is open.

nko12: I'm also using a Dell XPS 15 Laptop. Hopefully it's not some Dell driver conflict...
