Steam crashing and preventing computer shutdown
Hello,

I have an issue with my Steam client crashing when I shutdown my computer, the error that pops up is: The instruction at 0x0000000056F88CDC referenced memory at 0x0000000003660860. The memory could not be read.

This error popping up prevents the computer from shutting down.

What I have noticed:
- It doesn't happen every time
- My Steam starts on startup, sometimes it happens even if I don't use/open Steam
- It seems that there's a 50/50 chance for it to be a problem when I format my computer.
If it does happen, it happens consistently until I format again.
If it doesn't happen, it never happens until I format again.
I am not sure if this points to a driver issue of some sort.

I haven't really been able to find a pattern for what causes it to crash, I have a small suspicion that if there are other programs that are in line

Here is what I have tried:

Reinstalling multiple times, everything shown here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3352-RYON-4107&l=english

Any input would be much appreciated,

Thank you,

I have tried contacting support and they linked me to the pages I already said I went through

Is there anyone who might have any suggestions?

Thank you

to many missing information, OC or MOD's ( Original game install do that work )
rename old game and userdata at profile to gamenamefolder.old and steam install same thingy
stop steam cloud and workshop so it dont add mods again.

then reinstall Original game ( because of rename you cant have old leftover files from mods if you did that )

then OC ( never OC then you are in trouble, if you had such restore default settings )

check BIOS anyway specific RAM that it use standard settings and not Turbo as default, this has cause grief in the past depend on what is default at each board )

get a ram test app ( some bios can even do it now, most dont have a test 3 times cycles part of Bios , thats why ppl use ram test app )

ps.
because i dont know ram size and slot if dual ram do not have faster ram as slot2 or smallest at 1
most board maunal explan that and can lead to RAM refresh issue.

this was just RAM issue.

do not uderestimate Security issue with app that can block and hold frozen the pc, its rare they do worst possible senario, but it has been seen in the past.

same can be said with app's that interfere with Steam.. see steam help menu for that.
or safe boot mode if you might have other startup add interfere with Steam.

and you make mistake not give system info or game name ( even then many say ask own game forum ) and you might want to ask in hardware and sytem in steam forum )
maybe a test pc app can bring more light on the subject.
